It's a nice drive through there. I remember a time coming back up from the south coast through Kangaroo Valley & we should have stopped to let the children have a small break before continuing. Unfortunately, I kept going & part way up the hill one of our daughters chucked up. That wasn't good, but the Nissan Vanette we had didn't have a large engine & I struggled with the fully loaded van with family (& dogs) to get up that hill in 1st gear. We got a more powerful Nissan Nomad after that. That was some time ago now that we have grandchildren.

The towns of Bowral & Moss Vale on the way down (from the Hume Hwy) are also interesting places to stop too. It being the Southern Highlands it will be cooler than Sydney (west) temperatures.

Hey mate! Not common for me around here. That is a good clear photo of the male Superb Fairy Wren.

BTW, did you enjoy the nice dump of rain on Wednesday? We had about 123.2mm.

Thanks Ross. Yes we had solid rain for 12+ hours. Kangaroo Valley seemed to cope well with the deluge. When I get home I have a couple of wet photos to show.

That’s actually a Satin Bowerbird, either young male or female. The migratory Koel (annoying bird) is a type of cuckoo & can have a sort of similar belly appearance & both males are black. A nice shot though.

Thanks Ross for that. I had a small leaflet in the cottage showing a few local birds from which I made the wrong identity. But I did buy a $30+ bird book, which did not list a Brush cuckoo, know I know why...

                      Thanks for that...………..

Mark - a very impressive set of images you've posted so far, keep them coming. Your Superb Blue Fairy Wren is superb, and although they're common enough are not that easy to get shots as good as yours. The Kangaroo Valley pano is cool (never been there myself, but would recognise that blue Aussie sky anywhere, mate!). The Brush Cuckoo is also new to me, so you've already seen more than I have in just a couple of weeks! Anyway, Ross has given you good information, he's a knowledgeable bloke on Australiana.

I liked the Kangaroo Valley pano, bringing back memories of our visits there, but this Friar Bird is something I haven't seen before though. A great capture of it.
As far as the Satin Bowerbird goes, we have them around here a fair bit, with a bower in the neighbour's place, but I haven't been able to get a good shot of the male yet (only rubbish shots). You can see a few images of them in my Birds album. I need to upload some of my older bird photos into it too, since i've only recently started to use it. I'll probably have to pay the subscription fee if I keep filling it up too.
