  • Long-tailed Tits in Woodland

These Long-tailed Tits were busy feeding in the sunshine in my local wood yesterday.

Lovely work Ron. All three are winners. Glad you are getting such nice shots now.

For a long time I could never get a clear shot, but increasingly I am getting more success too.

Which must mean something has changed. My guess is they are slowing down

Many thanks for the kind comments and 'likes'. I am still getting to grips with Affinity Photo and when I looked at these shots again today I was not happy with them. They looked rather bright and over sharpened, so I went back to the original Raw files and tried again. Hopefully they look a little better now.

I did notice sharpening was more than I would suggest but I think we have been conditioned by modern practice into not giving opinions about such things and just say 'like' as it is easier than saying. So if you find it helps (like I do) for a gentle nudge about such things then happy to be a support.

They are now even nicer and show that less is more. But I'd add that getting that fluffy nothingness is so hard, it is part of their specialness for me.

As it seems there is no longer a time limit for editing posts, I have added two more shots of Long-tailed Tits. These were taken at Carlton Marshes earlier this week.

              Hi Ron,

Nice set of images, I find it’s always best to sharpen images in the LAB 16bit colour space on the luminosity channel. In Affinity Photo it’s referred to as the Composite Lightness channel this separates the colour from the luminosity in the image and produces a much pleasing result.

              All the best,

              Tom
