  • Great Tit Close Up

This Great Tit kept landing on a tree right beside me while I was waiting, in vain, for a Kingfisher to return. Not the bird I was hoping for but it would have been rude not to take a few shots in the circumstances.

    E-M1, 50-200 SWD and EC-14.

They are fantastic shots! The eye really stands out, which I find quite hard on Great Tits. I spotted our kingfisher at work today, but no shots, yet.

Excellent! I like the second one best of all, with that nice bokeh.

Maybe it though it was auditioning for a Canadian margarine ad.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

A female, probably with a nest site nearby.

          Nicely done.

Splendid - with shots like these it seems like you don't need that 300 f4

Thanks Chris. There is no way I would or could buy the 300mm f/4, excellent though it might be. I must admit I am enjoying the new lease of life that the E-M1 has given my 50-200mm. After all, with the EC-14, 283mm at f/4.9 isn't that

I thought the females had duller colours? How does one tell with these birds?

They can be a bit confusing but the male has much more black feathering in the stripe that runs down the belly particularly between the legs. Hope that helps.

Lovely shots, nice and sharp, just because it's a common garden bird doesn't make it any less beautiful!

You must join Flickr if you are going to post with titles like that.

In my experience just a 'tit' tag is worth three times the number of views but with 'Great Tit Close Up' you will be having them dribbling over the keyboards.

In serious mode. Nice behavioural shots. I see them doing this a lot at the minute. Very busy time.

And totally agree about the 50-200 was always good, prices are just silly (cheap) on several of these wonderful lenses.

One of our prettiest birds, but, as a common visitor often neglected. Superb shots full of sharp detail.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.
