  • Norfolk seals

Took a boat trip out to Blakeney point in Norfolk to see the seal colony. windy and dull with big swell making it difficult to take photographs. Out of 90 images I only had five keepers, all common seals, the greys all had their backs to us:

    And my favourite:

    David,
These are super images. For me #2 and #3 remind me of my golden labrador - same poses, same expressions but all of them are cracking images.

Good set - I know how difficult it is taking these from a small boat.

Excellent pictures. May I ask what equipment you used, distance and settings? I have seals around where I live but access is strictly restricted to the period 1 Nov - 31 Jan, always good to learn from others' success stories

These were all taken with E5 + 300mm f2.8, aperture priority at f8 and were between 14-20m away. They are all Common Seals which are giving birth now and are in a nature reserve, so the normal rules apply. The Grey Seals give birth in the winter so I guess that this is the reason for the restrictions where you live.
