  • Blue Tit - tried with flash...

Took this today with the built in flash on the E-3, was a tad dark and had to amend some settings in Lightroom but seemed to turn out OK.

Nice shot with lovely crisp details.

Never considered using the flash for bird photography and am a bit surprised it worked, how close were you, iso aperture etc. Unfortunately you have dropped the exif from this image (shame on you sir - how are we meant to crib from your techniques?)

      Hi Nick

Drat sorry, I used save-as in Photoshop so the EXIF was lost.

      EXIF: 70-300mm + XD1.4x, focal length: 425mm, 1/250th @f7.9, ISO160

I admit that the image was a tad dark so I did some PP in Lightroom to brighten it up, the camera was a little too far away for the on-board flash to be effective, especially at that focal length. Simple upping the exposure, levels and clarity worked a treat though.

Nice picture of the bird! I believe lots of birders use flash guns for their photography.
