Oooh, you've made an old man very happy

One of my guiding principles when it comes to taking a picture is "what can I leave out?" Minimalist is my default approach.

However, I do get stuck in a rut when it comes to technical tricks as part of composition. I often use narrow DoF to grab attention, or wide angle (11mm in my case) to emphasise scale and disconnect foreground from background, or long lenses to compress distance.

What I need is a new rut

Look, I'm an old man. I shouldn't be expected to put up with this.

This, believe it or not, is the New Roller for the cricket pitch. I was unable to ascertain if it still posseses a handle...

Fortunately I see no signs that anyone ever uses the two football pitches or the cricket wicket for that matter. The village kids must all be indoors downloading MP3s or whatever kids do these days...

Moving on swiftly from that barrow load of ****

Here is the cottage in the corner (not "Corner Cottage" in fact) right on the edge of the village, opposite Michael's field:

I like the way the thatch points at the poppies.
I wonder what is round the corner?

Just a thought, You didn't lug that barrowload round the village looking for a suitable background?

I've just caught up with this thread. What a super collection, Pete, there's some very creative stuff going on.

ps - re the barrowload, the best way of moving a barrowload of dung is the clone tool in photoshop.

Hmm, not certain about fantastic ... but maybe I am driven to greater invention by the excellent folks on the forum here and their continuing high standards!

Hiding in a corner of the equipment barn is this lovely 50 year old Fergie 35. It's just used for light duties these days, but it is used, its not for show...

I did wonder if this would make a good sepia, but then you lose the red of the engine cover, which seems a shame..

                              DOH!

Something actually happened in the Village and I missed it. Its Monday and I am out for my lunchtime wander. What's this? There is a boundary line around the generally unused cricket pitch. Odder still here is a local out for a walk. This is turning into a very weird day.

"Is there going to be a match?" I ask.

"Ystrday" He repies with that economical Hamphire burr..
                              Doh! Missed it.
