Can't help with the accommodation, but I can probably give you some pointers on locations for photography.

The University students services should be able to provide you help with that.

Things to photograph: the old and new cathedrals, there are still a few medieval buildings (the Golden Sun Inn, the Guildhall of St Mary, Spon Street), Holy Trinity church, St John's Collegiate church, Ford's Hospital, etc in the city; the Lunt Fort (Roman reconstructed) at Baginton. The Transport Museum. The Aviation Museum at Baginton. Those will keep you busy for a bit!

If you can get out of the city a bit, Baddesley Clinton (medieval manor house) Coughton Court (manor house, where the wives of the Gunpowder Plotters waited for news in the tower room); Kenilworth Castle; Blakesley Hall, Birmingham; Soho House, Birmingham; Aston Hall, Birmingham; the Gun Quarter Museum Birmingham; "Little Venice", Birmingham.....

Will try anywhere accessible via public transport. Are there tubes (undergrounds, MRT, etc) in Coventry or just buses, Uber and taxi?

Don't forget Warwick Castle, that's pretty close and well worth a visit.

But as I remember, it cost a small fortune to get in, the last time I went there...!

You can get to quite a few of the attractions on the Midland Red bus....if there any nowadays. And West Midlands transport buses, I guess. (I left Coventry 31 years ago, so I'm not too sure these days)
