    Re: Photoshop CS3 vs Mac

    Hi Bill,

I went through some of the same issues as you did with CS3. Some cleared up when I went to CS4. I never did have the lost license issue however.

And bless you for your patience. I can never deal that long and that kindly with tech support organizations.

In my case I'm sure it really is an OS problem or at least an OS problem caused by an interaction with some utility that works with or within the system. Here's what the problem is. I can't find my problem after a year plus of looking at many levels. I do know that my current main CS4 problem is triggered by Flash applications that change the screen size when they launch and attempt to change it back when they quit. Generally that works fine, but not with PS which wants no part of the change bak and freaks out. That bug was also in CS3. I think but am not sure Flash is at fault. But is Flash, PS, or the OS (for not handling the screen resize correctly) at fault. I wonder if Sleep resizes the screen to essentially 1 x 1? I'd not be surprised.

The loss of license is scarier. Obviously it's kept somewhere and something is eating it periodically. I think that has to be an OS problem, but them the question becomes what and why is it only eating PS and Bridge licenses? The answer here may be somehow you're getting duplicate copies of the license file . Maybe there's an old one somewhere. They're not visible files I think. When you restore you just copy over or do restore using specialist softwear from a restore set? If so the duplicate could be reinstalled. Also am I correct in assuming you have only on HD? No externals?

Finally Apple tech support in the States is the pits. Search a website like MacFixit (macfixit.com) for your problem. There is a cost there but as I recall it was low.

    Good luck,

    Steve

Which Mac computer are you using - and how old is is it.

Have you also raised this on the Apple Discussion forums run by Apple - it will help you to find other people with this problem.

Also raising this on the Adobe run forums might get you some other user experience.

Hi Bill - wow, what a series of issues and you show incredible patience.

        I have no solution for you, except to perhaps try running your thread on a Mac support forum and see what you get. I have always used the following site;

        http://forums.macosxhints.com/index.php

... and have always had my issues sorted - not that there have been many though.

Good luck, and sorry you're experiencing these issues.

          Re: Photoshop CS3 vs Mac

Thank you so much all, for support. I am frustrated to the point of saying sod it to Adobe.
I am using a Mac 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB DDR2 SDRAM and OSX 10.5.6

I have Lightroom and it has not been affected other than when I have attempted to fix an image by using the option of going to PS and then it crashes. I am convinced that it is the software until I think about all the problems and then I am convinced that it is the operating system. I am completely ticked off with both companies lack of interest in the problem nor their ability to come up with a solution.

I have a good friend who is a software writer who has the same Mac system who is going to have a look at it. I know that he will really look into places that you and I have never been but I thought that I would post my problem in forums that I thought might bring some results, here, DPReview and the Adobe support forum. At the moment I have had your support only and for that I appreciate it.

I will let you know how I eventually make out and thanks again.

All I could further suggest Bill is have you tried booking an appointment with a Mac Genius at your local Mac store...? They really are experts and might be able to help...

            Worth a shot...?

Thanks John. Yes, I have considered but the weather here keeps me indoors. Our Mac store is downtown and I am afraid of falling on our icy streets. Good suggestion though and if nothing else happens I will go this route. I must add that this site has been very helpful.

Thanks Bill, very nice of you to say so.

I hope you manage to get this sorted soon, you have a lot of patience indeed.

                  Re: Photoshop CS3 vs Mac

Did you install 10.5.6 from the combo update or from the delta update. Many people recommend the use of the combo update.

I guess that you are using a Mac Pro - a colleague at the local Apple Club is having problems with Photoshop in that it does not do a Save as or something cleanly - I cannot remember the details. He was involved in a war of attrition between Apple and Adobe with Adobe saying that there was a problem in the Mac Pro and Apple saying that the problem was in Photoshop - a classic hardware versus software blame game. His wife was using the same versions of the software on an iMac and it was working fine.

I hope to find out if he has fixed the problem next time we meet.

Have you tried installing full MacOSX on a clean partition and updating it to the current level and then installing Photoshop to see if the problem occurs.

Hi Derick. In answer to your querries the mac is a G5intel chip and I don't understand your first question.....what is "combo update and what is "delta update" I do not understand these two questions

as to your second para the program either Photoshop or Bridge crashes with an error message and the error message is always generated as a PS message which indicates to me that it is Photoshop not connecting properly with the operating system.

                      Delta and Combo update
A Delta update only contains the modules that have been changed since the last issue of fixes.

A Combo update is all the changed modules since the CD/DVD of the product was shipped

It is possible that a series of Delta updates could end up with the some down level modules existing on the system drive due to "things happening"

With a Combo update you have a huge down load that once it has downloaded will have a much better chance of updating the operating system to where it should be.

What model Mac is it - iMac, Mac Pro or a laptop

The automatic download and update are done with the delta updates.

It might be worthwhile downloading the combo fix pack for 10.5.6 from here

                            http://www.apple.com/downloads/macos...mboupdate.html
and re installing it on top of your existing system

Did you ever run your iMac with the previous version of OSX eg 10.4.x or was 10.5.x supplied on the machine when your bought it.

Leopard was already installed on the computer when I bought it.
