Re: Any experience of the E-PL1?

My epl1 was my first toe in the m43rds water. A very good camera and the kit lens ain't bad either. In fact an image taken with this combo is part of the Olympus advertising display in the Jessops Oxford Street store.............go for it.

Re: Any experience of the E-PL1?

      Hi there Mike!

My first m4/3 camera was an epl-3 with the kit lens, which was bought for not much more than £150 open box, so there may well be some around for the £150 mark used now. I certainly find that the image quality is as good as my E-510, and in certain circumstances as good as my e-30, but I do find that using it in bright sunlight at times can be difficult, and that I don't seem to hold it as steady as my DSLR cameras as it is held at further away from my face without the extra contact point of an eyepiece to stablise it.

But unless you get a compact with a viewfinder, an E-PL series will be a very good bet!

      Cheers,

      Ralph.

The E-PL1 is a nice camera. Access to the functions can be a bit fiddly at first, but oddly I find it makes me think a bit more about the photo I'm about to take!

It focuses a lot quicker with later lenses than the original kit lens, too.

This is the image, and the display. If it is good enough for Olympus marketing.........

An excellent camera for the price that you can now get them for.

The 40-150 is exceptional for a kit lens.

Mike - I've just bought myself an OMD-E5 from Adrian on the forum and was in the process of putting a post on here for the sale of my EPL-1. I've bought it new and its comes boxed with all the accessories as per a new buy, and it has the 14-42 lens. I was going to ask £125 for it including RMSD. If you are interested let me know and I'll post some images.

                e-pL1 is a superb camera : underrated.
First things : set global whitebalance +1 green to avoid the brownish woodland.
Learn to hook the flash with your finger for indoors bounce flash goodness.
                Buy the M.Zuiko 45mm ASAP.

Thanks for all the opinions (and photo - great shot Dave) - sounds like a goer to me.

Paul, thanks for the heads up on your camera - if you've got a few shots of it I'd be keen to see them. Might well be interested.

                      Hi Paul,

That sounds pretty reasonable - in the ballpark of what I was looking at. I'd be happy to see a few photos if it's not too much bother.

The tip about the pop-up flash is excellent. I had forgotten all about it.

here's a selection of images I've taken with the EPL-1. They've all had some pp work. Its produced quite a number of images that have been well placed in my camera club competitions.

Looks good Paul - I'll PM you tomorrow. Probably be evening time as my work's firewall doesn't seem to like the site for some reason.
