  • Anyone been to Luxor

Being a late starter I didn't experience my first trip abroad until in my 50s when I went to Luxor, Egypt in 2006. I had the foresight, just as I was about to leave the airport, to realise that I was about to experience something totally new and for the first time, and that I'd never be able to experience that feeling again - my first time on foreign soil with all those exotic sights, sounds, smells etc. So, much to my partner's annoyance, as soon as we got outside into the open I stood there for a few seconds to savour the moment. Unfortunately, it was before I really rediscovered my interest in photography, and so I never even thought to take a photograph, which I now bitterly regret. So, if anyone does happen to have a shot of the view you get as you step out of the airport I'd be very grateful. Or if anyone reading this happens to go to Luxor (or lives there) and can take the shot for me I'd appreciate that too. All I had myself at the time was a cheapo Vivitar point and shoot so I'm not looking for anything special - just a photo to go with the memory and complete my album of the holiday. Many thanks indeed in anticipation

I have plenty of pictures taken in luxor but none as you described. I am not sure if is the sort of picture that many would take but i wish you luck in you search.

Hi Paul, haven't seen you on here for a while!

A quick search on Flickr came up with this: https://www.flickr.com/photos/474060...-bXdvy2-98aDG6

If it's the sort of thing you are looking for it might be worth contacting the owner to ask if he'll let you have a high res file.

I don't know if I can help, but next week I shall be visiting a 'globe trotting snap happy' friend. She has dozens of DVD's and I do know she has visited Egypt on more than one occasion but not sure about Luxor?

As luck would have it, I'll be on Skype tonight and will ask? If yes, and if time permits - just moved house, reason for visiting - during my visit I'll have a shufti to see what she has to offer. Getting permission won't be a problem.

I suspect you're right - I didn't think to take it myself. I think I really need to find someone who's going out there and get them to take it for me. Or go again myself of course!!

Go to Google Maps and then see what photos are available for the airport - you might get lucky as there are quite a few

I decided I was spending far too much time on this and other forums and so needed to take a short break, but didn't intend it to be nearly two years!! I've found plenty of shots like the one you suggest thanks, but it's really the reverse of that I'm looking for - standing in the airport doorway looking out, possibly even towards the camera position in this particular shot.

Ah, I get it! May not be easy finding such a picture, but I wish you luck.....

                  ..........and welcome back!

Nice to be back. I suspect you're probably right, it won't be easy at all, but nothing ventured...

Spoke to my friend in Germany, she's not sure but as boxes are still in transit I will have to wait until I get there.

Arrive Wednesday but with other comittments it may be the week after until we can sort things out.

Her two friend has also been to Egypt so we might have more than two bites of the apple.
