Re: Anyone got a Kia Sportage?

I bought Diesel because in the UK the petrol engines in UK Sportages aren't all that powerful. This despite me knowing that I'll have to take it for a good blast every so often to clear the DPF, due to my low mileages. And you can't beat the thrum and torque of a nice oil engine!

Stephen, whats the mpg "local short journeys" ? and "long motorway" ?

Our Viano, diesel 2.2 T does 23/26 pottering about but 43 mpg on a steady run - thats 8 up and all the stuff inc. kitchen sink and portaloo in the boot

But ... we shall need to get a smaller car soon (retirement beckons me)

Give me chance, Chevvy! Only done 68 miles to date! Away next week so I should have a better idea. I don't expect great mileage as it's the 4wd version. Apparently the 2wd version can be quite economical, but I didn't want that one. And bear in mind that my MPG for my Honda CRV dropped from 35 ish in Scotland to 27 ish "darn sarf".

OKAY ! I'll give you two weeks to report then

was the sarf drop in MPG due to the warmer weather evaporating more fuel

... or you tearing about on the Motorways here ?

Two conjoined reasons. In Scotland we rarely encountered traffic but spent more time travelling to supermarkets etc. For instance, the nearest Tesco or Asda was 10 miles away. 10 easy, gentle miles where the engine warmed up. Down here, Asda is 2 miles away, and Tesco 3. During those 2 or 3 miles we are stuck in traffic inching along, or at best there in 10 minutes before the engine's warmed up. So we are getting poorer MPG but doing much fewer miles.

Re: Anyone got a Kia Sportage?

Just reading through this thread.....into a similar position myself recently, close to retirement and winding down, new car now or never again. Found what I wanted from a family dealership, the local main dealers were.......well not very helpful, as you said at the start, always referring to the manager, not what I feel is good salesmanship.
I ended up with a diesel 208, did 69mpg on the way home (70mph+), and 60+ around town at the moment, PLUS zero road tax, until the government move the goalposts..so happy bunny here..

The Groom garages it, wipes its flanks, and puts on its nosebag. Then the Swallows fly in and s**t on the roof!

Will I have to doff my hat if you pass me when I'm walking along your drive, or would a simple touching of my forelock suffice?
