  • HELP! Problems With the Forum

For teh apst week or so I have been trying to reply to a post in the OM User's Den thread, but every time I try I get the following message:

(Obviously the formatting has been lost here)

    Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@e-group.uk.net and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I can post short messages, but my usual epistles are lost.

Does anyone know anything about this?

    Re: Problems With the Forum

I had this a day or so ago and then all three sites couldn't be accessed for a while. After about four hours I re-booted my router and restarted my laptop and everything was OK so I didn't know whether it was me or the server. However as every other sites were available I guess it was the server.

    Any thoughts Ian?

I have just tried posting again here, and I still get the same problem.

I can sent short messages such as this, but anything above about fifty words results in an error message?

          Re: Problems With the Forum

There were certainly problems with DNS because the IP address of the server was different to the old one. For reasons I can't explain some parts of the name server network globally updated much more quickly than others. I had hoped that this problem had run its course.

Re-booting your computer and clearing your browser cache can be helpful. You can also consider using a different DNS IP address from the one provided by your ISP - I can recommend Open DNS, which has some other features you may be interested in.

I'm still not sure about the Internal Server Error problem - Pandora had a problem with this but now seems to be free of it, but then Ross started to see it. But of the several hundred other people who have logged on this week I know of only 3 or 4 how have experienced this problem and I haven't encountered it - which makes it very difficult to diagnose!

Thanks for your help all the same Ian. It is a bit of a learning curve for some of us & I will look into Open DNS to see what advanges it can have for me & also how & when to use it etc..

              Re: Problems With the Forum

I have tried deleting cached files, and have rebooted both my workstation and file server (which handles all internet traffic), but still I have the same problem.

I will try my laptop later using 3G, but I am doubtful that it will make any difference.

Does anyone know anything more about this problem?

                Re: Problems With the Forum

Something is not quite right, since the server update I have not been able to upload any photo's to any posts. I keep getting the following message if I try to upload from my computer ..... " Invalid File Type" even though it is a jpeg and around 65kb and it doesn't work if I use a URL either

It makes no difference if I reboot my computer, is anyone else getting this problem ?
