WANTED Panasonic 100-400 or Olympus 300 pro

OK, so I may struggle to find the money, but should anyone be planning to sell either of these lenses soon please let me know - I have a few other non-photography items that I'm selling to help cover the cost so no big rush but the lure of e-infinity keeps on pulling at me..

It's not an easy one is it Phil - I've never really used primes, and the only one I have (an 85mm f1.8 for my Nikon D850) is my least used lens ever. I have a sigma 150-600 for the same camera and use it a lot, mainly at the 500-600 end.
I'm not really sure I can keep both systems so that's one dilemma, and the other is that the oly 300 has so much going for it, but it's a prime. The 100-400 has the extra reach and flexibility but extends, which I don't like (as does the sigma) but is a lot cheaper.
Fancy joining forces and buying a few lines for tomorrow's euro millions..?

I think I'll stick with my 75-300 until Olympus reveal the new 150-400 (or whatever it may be) then make my choice.

This just adds to the dilemma, as I don't imagine it will be cheaper than the 300....

Unrepairable? Must have missed that. Surely not, maybe just uneconomic to do repairs?
An Olympus 150-400 does sound good, in all but price I'd guess.

My wife's Panasonic 100-400mm developed a fault during its warranty period and was sent off for repair.

The repair facility simply replaced it with a new one, it seems replacing was less expensive than repairing.

I'd bought her a 300mm just before the Panny was sent off, the new 100-400mm was tested when received and I don't think it's been used since, I'm not sure if she'd want to part with it though.

WEX are advertising seven used Panasonic 100-400 zooms, including one open box and one refurbished as new. It appears that at least some of them find their way back onto the market after they have eventually been repaired.

Hi Ron, I haven't looked at the Wex site yet. Do Wex indicate any of these 100-400 lenses offered were faulty and subsequently repaired ?

No, none of gives any indication of being faulty and having been repaired. However the one which is refurbished is described as: Refurbished by the Manufacturer to original specifications. Condition of goods: Shows signs of testing. I am speculating that it has been repaired but there might be another explanation.

My understanding with Panasonic 100-400 lenses from articles on the net and posts on here is as follows:

If the lens develops a fault under warranty it will be replaced free of charge.

If the lens develops a fault out of warranty, you will be offered a new replacement at a slightly reduced price compared to the RRP. but they will not offer to repair the faulty lens.

It doesn't mean those lenses will not be repaired and re-sold. These will most likely be re-supplied to the market as 'refurbished' along with open box returns that are, otherwise in as-new condition. And they will have a warranty.

Personally, I have had great success in buying 'refurb' laptops, Dyson vacuum cleaners and other items and saved hundreds of pounds, some from the original manufacturer direct. I can't sayI regretted buying any of them.

On the other hand I am having a battle with HP over a 4 month old laptop bought brand new from them direct which has a cracked screen through no fault of my own, but that's a different story!

As far as I am aware, unfortunately, the Olympus teleconverter only works with two of their lenses ... and the 75-300 isn't one of them.

Good luck with the HP Ian. I bought a Dell XPS 15 five months ago from Currys PC World. Recently, a small dark mark appeared behind the LCD (not a dead pixel). I took it into the store on the Monday, and had it back from their Team Knowhow repair centre to the store on the Saturday with a new screen (and lid, combined unit)! Very happy, as I was always a bit wary of buying from them.

Thinking about selling my 100-400 panasonic as I want to upgrade to the 300mm F4, its a grey import bought via I think it was hdew or panamoz about 12 months ago - will find receipt out later.

Not sure what it's worth if honest, but would ideally prefer potential buyer to come have a look at the item prior to purchase so everyone is happy.

All resolved in my favour I was totally sure the crack in the laptop screen was a materials or manufacturing fault. But HP and other companies will try to convince you otherwise unless you press hard and stand your ground. My case was escalated - but only after being very stubborn (though remaining polite) . HP's Customer Care person was a breath of fresh air compared to the customer support/technical support people I initially contacted. Apparently, they should have had the laptop in for inspection and as they didn't give me that option unless I agreed to pay for the repair, they were in the wrong. Laptop received back on Thursday and you'd never know the screen had been replaced - apart from the lack of a big hairline crack!
