  • WANTED Panasonic f/1.7 20mm or Olympus f/1.8 17mm

As above - pointed here as a suggestion from AVForums photography section, to look for one of these two lenses.

Will gladly give feedback etc before trading, given new member status.

I'm going on honeymoon in June and want a fast prime for my EPL-5 for night-time use. The 14mm Panasonic is great, but, I'm not sure it will do for lower-levels of light in restaurants and the like (we want some nice snaps from the honeymoon of course without needing a flashgun).

Anyone got either of these two for sale? I really want a sub f/2.0!

    Many thanks in advance,
    tsf.

The Olympus f1.8 isn't a pancake. You need the f2.8 version if you want a pancake.

      Apologies, carried away with myself.

Definitely want the f/1.7 where available (or 20mm Panny). Understand that it's not a pancake - where the Panny 20mm is.

      Otherwise, that's what I'm after.

The Panasonic 20mm f1.7 is a pancake lens.

The olympus 17mm f1.8 is NOT a pancake but the olympus 17mm f2.8 IS a pancake

The 17mm f/1.8 is a tiny lens despite not being a pancake. The Panny 20mm is a very good performer and that comes from me (not a fan of pancake lenses in general). I'd prefer the 17, though.

Thanks - the 17mm f/1.8 is definitely slim as you point out, though of course, not a pancake. I reiterate my minor error above

Either this (f/1.7 17mm) or the 20mm would be fine for my requirements, as they are both very fast and portable (general benefit of M43 on the whole, of course).

Have scoured high and low for the 20mm ... it's not one that people seem to want to part with (and research shows why!).

Despite there "only" being 3mm of difference in focal length, the FoV difference is quite apparent, such that some people own both. You need to be sure which FoV you prefer before committing yourself.

Am aware. This is to be used indoors at night in bars and restaurants. My 14mm isn't quite fast enough and unflattering on noses!

Sorry to correct you again, but the 17mm is f1.8, not f1.7 as you keep typing

There's plenty of 20mm Panny's on ebay, I'm currently watching about a dozen

Well, given the thread title, I think I know what was meant...but...thanks again, for correcting my errors. I ought to be more vigilant in my postings, clearly - I don't want to confuse anyone who might be trying to sell me their wares.

I don't want an eBay sale - I'd join you in watching a whole load of them if I did I prefer dealing with forums/direct interactions where possible.

I would have thought it was obvious given the request via this very forum! Not to worry, though. For clarity, I generally find forumites to look after equipment a bit better than those on eBay.

Not always the case, but it reduces the likelihood for me.

Forum sellers in general seem to have taken more care of their kit, so that would be my first choice too!
