        As of 2015.7, you don't need to go through that rigmarole any more. There's a simple checkbox now. There's more detail in the Performance - Previews & Caches post on my blog. I can't post the link yet, but it's on my Lightroom Queen blog, on the second page of the blog section, or in the Shop > Free Performance eBook too.
