I do sometimes wonder though whether modern film scanners accentuate film grain in a way that darkroom printing didn't.

Scanners are sharper than enlargers, basically.

Minimal post processing, more or less off the scanner. I agree though, scanners do pick up the grain fairly well. I'm quite impressed from a relatively inexpensive Plustek.

For me, reality is fairly boring in photography and I therefore tend towards B&W as an abstraction, further aided by the portrait orientation of the picture (reality is the landscape vision God provided with binocular vision).
