  • Which filters for 7-14 pro

I am doing a test and wow this w/e on the 7-14 pro. I was wondering which system people are using? Coming from and still having Canon gear I have accumulated the Hitech filters and big stopper and circular polariser with Cokin150 Z filters holder. Can these be used with the 7-14 pro? Via an adapter or will I need to start from scratch? Any advice will be helpful.
    Kind regards mike.

I use a holder from Photosphere in Singapore on my Panasonic 7-14. It works very well and they do a version for the Olympus 7-14 Pro too. Nice people. They can supply with a Haida 10-stop square filter too:

Hi Ian, thanks for the info, did you buy the nisi filters as well? Does it work well?
              Are there any downsides?

Re: Which filters for 7-14 pro

I use the Norton/Nisi set for my 7-14 as well.

The only problems I've encountered are those common to all 'external' filter holder systems: more glass surfaces to keep clean and dry; increased risk of light leaks with Big Stoppers; larger and heavier; increased wind resistance; more bits and pieces to keep track of and fiddle with.

The main advantages are that you can use grad filters, and it's easier and quicker to pull out the filters.

Since I've got the 12-100 I've been spoiled by the much reduced need to use a tripod for many landscape shots, so I haven't used the 7-14 for a while.

I've also switched on my other lenses to screw-in filters. For me these address all the issues listed above as disadvantages, and since mirrorless cameras will focus through even Big Stoppers, you don't need to unscrew them as often as you would need to on a DSLR.

Some people have apparently had trouble with the Norton/Nisi kit's gaskets wearing, but I haven't encountered that. A while ago Phil supplied all purchasers a set of spare gaskets, but I haven't needed mine.
                Regards,
                Mark

                  Hi Mike,

Yes I do use Nisi filters with this set up mostly the reverse grads, square polariser. Also have the natural light filter which is great at reducing the light pollution.

Normal grad work still use my Lee filters, you have to draw the line some where with the spends.

There are some youtubes about Phil Nortons kit.

Thanks Mark and Ian for a in depth replies, I have 3x100mm format filters and the big stopper. Which I used to use with with my sigma 10-20 f3.5 lens. I will possibly trade that in and get the Norton/nisi holder? When and if I get the 7-14pro hopefully the filters should fit they will do me for starters.thanks again
                    Kind regards Mike

Re: Which filters for 7-14 pro

I was musing about vignetting at the wider end with the available holders in the 100mm size. It seems a little daft to pay nearly a grand for a wide angle lens to have obstructions at the wider end? I therefore thought that the 150mm size filters would be a better solution, but wow what a price hike, for this size, the holder, adapter, 3 graduated a 10 and 6 stop nad maybe a polariser comes to nearly another grand and over depending on the brand

                      Kind regards Mike

Re: Which filters for 7-14 pro

Sorry to hijack & resurrect this thread but as my request is related it seems the best place for it. I have the same problem and looking for advice, just bought the Oly 7-14 2.8 Pro and unfortunately did not consider the problem with fitting filters to it. My Lee Seven5 filters are not suitable and so I will have to probably buy into 100mm range. I have done some research and apparently the Lee Olympus 7-14mm Pro Ring causes some vignetting below 10mm so that is not really an option. Other options, Phil Norton 7-14 adapter – some vignetting if the holder is tilted, Shapeways Adapter which allegedly has no vignetting, PhotospheresG Filter Solution for Oly 7-14MM F2.8 Pro lens which Paul has recommended some time ago but the website shows it as sold out. There is also the STC Screw-in Lens Adapter for Olympus 7-14mm Pro Lens. This looks quite interesting as it uses 105mm circular filters. Does anyone have any experience with any of these solutions or indeed any others? If anyone is interested in the Lee Seven5 mount and filters please let me know.
                        Thanks
                        Brian

The Lee Olympus 7-14 Adapter has vignetting problems when you tilt the filter, Lee confirm this on their web site.

The Phil Norton Adapter does not have the vignetting problem, see this web page for details.

p.s. I have a spare Lee Big Stopper if anybody wants to buy one at a reduced rate just drop me a PM.

Thanks for your response. After researching the other options I am seriously thinking about the Phil Norton adapter. The Nisi filters have pretty good reports too. Would you know if the PN adapter accepts 10x10 Lee filters?

                              Another vote for Phils adapter

I used a Lee Filter a few years back on it, it works but I found them a little thicker than the Nisi filters and therefore didn’t glide in the holder as well
