  • Rumour 70-250 & Oly 100-400

I have to say that the coming 150-400mm with inbuilt Teleconverter looked just too much to carry for me

I wonder if either of these rumoured lenses on the 4/3 Rumour site will be more to my liking.

They got it from https://www.mirrorlessreports.com/ol...cros-and-zooms which has some more information and even talks about a 90mm macro

    4/3R says

    Re: Rumour 70-250 & Oly 100-400

I would think the 100-400/4.5 will be attractive provided it's not too pricey but on the bare information available it looks quite close to the 150-400 which promises to be expensive. The 70-250/3.5 would be a logical development from the much loved FT 50-200 or even the heavy 90-250/2.8.

I expected the 100-400 to be 4.5 - 5.6 or thereabouts, making it a bit smaller and more affordable to the general photographer as the Panny offering is.

The 150-400 is just going to be far too huge except for static wildlife photography- as long as you don’t have to walk too far to the hide! I quite like the Pany 100-400 which is much more lightweight and works pretty well as long as you have reasonable light. I would consider swapping mine for an Olympus equivalent as long as it wasn’t heavier or much more expensive - but only if it was compatible with the x1.4 converter!

Compatibility with the x1.4 converter would be nice but, considering that the 100-400 is going to have to be in the region of f4-f6.3 like the Panny one, you are going to lose another stop on top of that using the converter, no problem in great light but in our lovely weather, well... especially if you are trying for wildlife etc.

I just wish they would give us that 100-400.

              Re: Rumour 70-250 & Oly 100-400

Reason/s for Olympus to produce a 100-400 with performance and price tag in par with the Panasonic Leica (F/6.3) would be an offering with dual IS compatible on Olympus cameras. Let's hope they also will design another, more clever, solution for the lens hood, where Panasonic managed to make use of two features (retractable and separate lens hood) in their solution. Either or would have been better. I doubt it will support the MC14/MC20, though as image quality would suffer.

A 70-250 would be very useful for sports and wildlife photography where 250mm is sufficient. F/3.5 to have a portable and lightweight package? Compatible with the MSs and with PRO specs it would fill the gap between the 40-150 F/2.8 and the 300 F/4.

Now, Olympus is losing money on their camera division and the forecast for 202 indicates continued losses so these dreams may never come true...

i hope that if Oly bring out a 100-400(ish) they'll make it teleconverter compatible. It's nice to have the option even if you only occasionally have enough light.
