That lens has a lot of fans on here - including me. It is tiny, weighs almost nothing, and is a superb performer, right from wide open. In my opinion it is an absolute gem and very hard to beat in terms of bang for your buck.

If 45mm suits your style I can't think of any reason not to get one. No idea whether this price is "cheap" compared with the market these days though.

It's a great lens - though 45mm on M43 is 90mm on full frame so quite long for lots of situations.

I started putting my shots on Flickr into albums by lens so you can see what I've done with mine here.

I also have the 17mm f1.8 Olympus replacing the f2.8 both of which I've used a lot more.

      I also have the Panasonic 25mm f1.7

The Panasonic 20mm f1.7 is another option - very well regarded and very small.

Many thanks for the replies so far. The lens certainly has a good reputation and I will of course post shots on here if I do decide to buy.

I think John has put the finger on it - what's your style?

Well, I want to branch out a little in to street and some limited portrait stuff. I also want to test myself with a `fixed` lens rather than rely the zooms I have now and on paper this lens fits the bill.

Others more experienced than I may say otherwise, the 45 I think would be good for that, of course the 'ultimate' Prime for street is probably the 75, but I don't get to use it much. Oly Zooms are good, so don't reject that option either.

HCB used the 50 effectively, but most street photographers choose wider, either the 35 or the 28. (Halve these numbers for u43.)

The u43 45 is a good lens, but I would say it's too long for street photography.

Its a favourite lens of mine on the Pen F or any other and the quality is superb, the other lens though rather big on the pen f is the 40-150 2.8, its quality is outstanding

                    Re: Thoughts on 45mm 1.8 m43?

When I was doing studio work, the 45mm would have been very useful, along with my 25mm and 75mm. But for outdoors photography I find it too short for telephoto use and too long for landscapes. I much prefer my 15mm for that!

So it all depends on your typical needs. What focal length do you find you're using with a zoom lens?

If you want distance, a good idea on street, so why not the 75 ? suppose a bit conspicuous....

And also quite heavy compared to the 45mm
