  • Old Lumix 14-150 Walkabout

This is one remarkable lens Leica-d-vario-elmar-14-150mmf35-56-asph mega-ois-lens. I have not used this in a while but since Phill D decided to stir up the interest in it, I decided to take it out on a spin.

Well, I have not regretted that decision. The event was the Putrajaya Balloon Feast.

The participants and helpers getting ready.

It's not the brightest lens in the pack, High ISO for this 2 photo panorama

and this, a 3 photo panorama, Also high ISO

    Around 7am local time

The 150mm do come in handy (ok..only 35mm used)

The lack of bright lights but this lens is still punchy.

        And this morning's moon (5am)

150mm plus in camera digital crop

To the buyer of PhillD lens, this is one fantastic lens. Don't be afraid of using it and do post some photos. AND turn that OIS off. The in camera IS is much better.

I promise photos soon! But IS definitely on.... This lens has just given image stabilization to my E-1 digital dinosaur 😁

                That's the whole idea....hehehe

Anyway, it's not as bright at that 12-100 and honestly, the AF is ok. Not as nifty as the 12-100 and the IS, sadly dual IS don't work.

On that E-1. OIS must be ON. You will notice slightly higher contrast against that of the 14-54 and the 12-60. You may experience a tat of vignetting at certain Zoom as the E1 do not have the vignetting compensation.

Not a problem Henry I was only joking. It's gone to a good home where it will be used and appreciated so I'm happy. Plus that 12-100 I got from you is pretty sparkling, can't understand why you didn't like it

Yes Jon it will give your E1 stabilisation. When you said that was what you wanted to do I had to try it out on my old E1 just to make sure it all worked as to be honest I had never used the lens IS as I'd always had it on cameras with IBIS. It worked fine but as it is one of the first IS systems it's not going to give you the 5 stops benefit of the modern systems. I think it was rated at around 3 stops from memory when I bought it. Looking forward to seeing some shots soon Jon.

Thanks Phill - it's sadly neglected although I'm hoping to put some new things up there over the next week or two. If people dig back into the archives there are a couple of E-1 related articles though. I've been using it this weekend with the Zuiko 25/2.8, but if time permits, the 14-150 will get a first outing tomorrow before heading off to Bruges later next week!

                        Cheers,

                        Jon

Hopefully there'll be some shots soon! I'm not expecting amazing things from the IS, at least not when compared to my more modern cameras (Fuji X-H1 and Lumix GX-80) both of which offer c5 stops. However, given the E-1 really needs to be kept at ISO400 or below, anything will help at longer focal lengths!
