  • No MFT 2x TC

Just wondering why Olympus don't have a mft 2x tc after all the 1.4 is a super bit of kit.

Because there's no fast glass to make use of one.
It's the image that's important, not the tools used to make it.

Plus used with the 40-150 it would take much of the need way from the 300mm f4.

BUT, the 300 f4 would be a great 600mm lens..............

          Yes, but at f8 though.

I have a 600mm f/8 and while it can produce a good image, it's a difficult lens to use in the field and atmospherics have a big impact on IQ at long range.

For static birds and saf f8 would be fine on close birds ,yes atmospherics have a big impact on IQ that's for sure but the 300 is so sharp a 2x would have very little impact on IQ it rally would be handy to have.

As Rob says i dont think it would be a problem so long as you used it within its limitations, one of my systems is the Nikon V2 now i guess modern Olympus cameras have better focusing than it does,i can use my Sigma 100-400 with 1.4 converter @ f9 with focusing on stationery subjects no problem.
Ok you would need to keep the shutter speed down to keep the iso down but again this comes back to using it in the right situation.

No, people who want 300 F/4 and absolute sharpness would not be happy with 80-300 F/5.6 and some slight loss of quality. The 300mm is a specialist lens. Now, people like me will be perfectly happy with a x2 for its convenience as it would save the size and weight of what would be a rarely used lens (the 300mm) and be faster than the 75-300mm at maximum stretch. Carrying both the 40-150mm & 1.4x and the 75-300 always seems a bit of overkill just for that extra 90mm but I do miss 300mm on occassions.

Mind you, a x2 from Olympus would not be cheap.

Good info. I think Oly will do a 2x in time as they have described a patent for the same.

Keep forgetting about the Digital Tele-converter in camera. Have the em-1 mk2 and 40-150mm 2.8 +mc-14, be interesting see how usable it is.
