News emerging today indicates that the Jessops camera store chain, acquired by Dragons Den star, Peter Jones, 5 years ago, is about to appoint administrators.
Earlier today, and before I heard this news I emailed their support desk to thank them for the customer service I'm receiving from them and for the hands on advice I've received in their stores.
If Jessops closes then I for one will be struggling to find reliable face to face advice.
I've learned much from this forum, but I've learned more quickly and in more depth from the time spent with the staff in Jessops.
I hope that the business can be restructured again, with profitable stores retained but we don't know the extent of the problem. But it looks like that's the end of Peter Jones' project.
I'm envious of Watford, because if Jessops dissapear from MK, etc., that's where my nearest camera shop (SRS) will be located.

That's a bit harsh Jim - Betjeman wrote of Slough in 1937 when, I am told, Watford was a pleasant town in which to reside. I was born and lived there for the first 25 years of my life, not in the thirties I might add, and it was still reasonably so. One of the town's features which has been reconstructed many times is the pond at the top of the town - each time I think to its detriment. Then there is the ongoing controversy concerning the removal of the park gates, although the park itself and the canal/river are still nice enough. I think I would have to agree the town ain't what it used to be!

My memories of the park go back to the late forties and over the years it has steadily become more heavily used and in many areas the wear shows.
The pond is now filled with green pea soup - or that what it looks like because of the pollution caused by 'fast food' being thrown in.
I used Jessops a lot from the late 70's until the late 90's. Then the shops I could get to easily all closed and the remaining ones went a bit "high end" and stopped stocking the everyday bits and bobs to concentrate on expensive cameras and expensive lenses. I still have (and use) a Jessops own brand camera case and tripod case. Olympus products were not to be seen although the latest reincarnation does at least seem to have some items in stock.

Must be why the heron sits for hours on end beneath the 'W' flora display, having now depleted the pond of fish, presumably waiting for a tasty burger or two!
