Re: How to download photos to android tablet ?

It doesn't matter what can be done with SD cards. It's whether the later Android tablet will see the CF card (which the E420 uses) or not through the card reader or camera or not. I know my Android phone does not as that feature came out after. I don't believe it's a software issue but hardware.

Would using a wifi 'travel router' do the job?

I used one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (no longer available) before aquiring cameras with their own wifi, and used it to view/download/upload images via wifi when on hols and taking only a tablet, connecting it to SD cards, card readers (which could read CF?), usb sticks, etc. (maybe also mini hard drives? - I've forgotten, but think it could), and probably a camera with card insitu and connected via lead to the device.

It was far more elegant using an 8" tablet with that device in my pocket, than viewing pics on a clunky 15" laptop whilst sitting at the bar at the end of day waiting for my dinner.

I've just spent the last hour trying my seldom used 'Ravpower WD003' travel router. I gave up in the end. It's glacially slow and the interface is unbelievably clunky!

I raised this query with Olympus UK Support.

They sent me a very polite reply today. Unfortunately, the Olympus Image Share app has been designed solely to support micro four thirds systems, such as the Pen series. Therefore, they confirmed "because of the age of the camera" - there isn't a driver available to load photos from an E-Series dslr onto an Android tablet.

I do not wish to be constantly taking the card out of the camera and inserting it in a card reader. This is the reason why I bought a brand new tablet.

The nearest I have got to solving the problems is - being able to display photos on the tablet, but, the software didn't provide a load / store - option i.e. as soon as the cable was removed, the images disappeared off the screen.

In the future, if anyone finds a suitable app - please make me aware.

I thought most people did take the card out of the camera and use a reader to download.
Any reason why you are so against it?

Unless I'm misunderstanding what you are hoping to do, surely you would only need to remove the card once, at the end of a shooting session. It's reportedly wiser and safer to remove a card than it is to repeatedly pull plugs in and out of the camera or tablet given the delicate nature of the contacts.

Good idea - the pins are easily bent on the camera.

I used CF cards for years and never bent any pins.
If the card is inserted the right way round without being forced no reason it should bend anything.

I agree, but there have been reports of bent pins in the camera.

Yes, but make sure the CF Card Reader is one with a deep slot for the card as I've had a shallow one that made me feel like the pins could get bent if not careful. The later reader (Trandscend TS-RDF8K) was fine for CF cards.

BTW, I always take the card out to download images & only connect the camera via a cable to do updates etc..

Those convertors do work but the limitation is the camera. The highest memory that the E-420 may take would be only 8Gb. I don't think it will go beyond that.

All very useful info but as already stated, the OP does not wish to remove the card from the camera so any discussion about card readers/adapters etc. is all somewhat irrelevant to him.

At least I've learned something that may help SWMBO with her photos and tablet so many thanks for that.
