Faulty chip

As i further tidy up my piccys of the last lunar eclipse i have noticed a vertical line in the red channel


Is this a fault?
Can it be fixed?
typical that you always find these things after the warranty ends!

Simple answer is no the chip cannot be fixed but line problems like this are normally earthing or software issues and not the chip itself. As Olympus no longer provides software upgrades for this camera its back to their service department as fixing this on every shot is not worth the effort.

BTW,

I rang Olympus about the E400 service costs recently .......well put it this way. You can pick up a cheap E510 on ebay for almost the same cost.

They wanted 180 pounds.

Are you shooting in RAW or JPG? Have you tried a pixel remap?

yep...shooting RAW and have remapped a couple of times to no effect.
It is only a real problem on some of my astro shots so maybe I will make a dark frame and do my own subtraction...do Olympus Service have an e-mail address? I could try see what they think !

Does it show up when shooting JPG's?

The pixel mapping does not appear to work when using RAW mode on the E400.
