  • HELP! Been offered an EP2

    Hi Guys,

WOW, its odd being back. Some of you may remember me hopefully lots of "new" people won't lol Glad the forum is still kicking around.

I sold all my camera gear when my wife and I separated so I could continue to pay the bills and Harrisons upkeep :-) till I got a job. I've not taken a photograph in anger for a few years due to a lot of personal issues and Music taking over however as always the bug is coming back.

I need some advice if possible? I've been offered a EP2 with 17mm pancake lens for 100, is this a good deal? Is the camera decent? I'm used to the quality from my E3 and will this camera produce similar results?

I shoot a lot of dark places so what is the low light performance like?

    Thanks in advance.

Lovely to see some old names still about

    Cheers
    Garrie

Welcome back Garrie. I can't help with the EP2 I'm afraid - but at that price maybe it's worth trying it and hoping you can move it on without losing too much if its low light performance is too much of a limit. Or until you can save more pennies and trade up

Hi Garrie hope all is well, wouldn't you consider going back down the E3,E5 route? Or even a nice EM-5? Btw I'm sure I bought your E3.

Hey, I wish I could afford to go down that route but I've had to save for 100 believe it or not, things are a bit tight at the moment.

Hope the E3 is still going strong, I loved that camera :-)

        Good to hear from you.

Thank John, that's what I'm thinking, but I'm just trying to justify the expenditure, its horrible being this skint haha but its life I guess :-)

        Cheers

The E-P2 is a great camera, and with that lens a bargain at £100. Sure, it won't be the fastest focussing thing out there, but plenty good enough to give excellent results.

I don't think you will do better at that price. The 16MP sensor in the later cameras and the 17mm F1.8 rather than the F2.8 on offer (?) would be the way to go for the best in low light but is not a budget option by a long shot. Still ,the E-P2 has a good enough stabilisation system should you find yourself handholding at longer than normal exposure times.

Yes absolutely : and the only combination I always take with me all the time.
The lens still sells used for around 70 and the body is so stylish with really great colours.
It doesn't do cats in coalmines like the modern sensors but so what.

                Hey Garrie, welcome back!

I had this combination for a while, before I was lucky enough to progress to an E-M5 and it gave great results in good light, not all that different from an E-3. Getting the lens and body for 100 is a real bargain and will help get you back into photography. The lens is a much better performer than it is often credited for and the body is very well built, with nice handling. Go for it - and make sure you post some shots on the forum!

                  Hey,

Thanks for all the advice. I think I'm going to go for it, the Camera includes a VF2 view finder also.

I can't really lose for 100 I guess and I guess it beats my current camera which is my iPhone 5s (although I've had some okay results with that

                    Re: Been offered an EP2

It seemed a real bargain before, but if it also includes a VF2 you'd be daft not to get it! Go on, snatch their hand off before they change their minds!

BTW Forgot to ask - how's the drumming?

Yeah the music side of things is going great thanks for asking. Got a few bands on the go so that makes me busy in-between times when I'm dying to see Harrison

Hope your keeping well? Things good at your end?

I'm not too bad, thanks. Glad to hear the music is going well for you. At least if you get this camera you'll be able to take lots of pics of Harrison when you see him. How old is he now?

I've been looking out for a really cheap viewfinder. Looks like you've found one so I suggest you snap it up as it makes the bundle even better value.

Hang on, you are paying 100 for e-P2, 17mm and VF-2?

                              That's unbelievable.
