I think they way to sweep the market. My bet, 1599.99 body only.

So much cheaper than the EM1-2 on release then?

      Nice thought perhaps.

Perhaps Olympus are trying to enter that sacred space where aficionados will pay just for the name.
Not sensible, but you don't see many Leicas around. That is why. How many of this super duper new camera will Oly sell if the price is what some seem to think it will be. Not as many as the EM1.2 I wouldn't think.

Since the only firm rumours are that it will be expensive and the best thing since sliced bread i expect the price will be well into top-end Sony Alpha territory.

If so, I hope it will feature hand-held high-res and global shutter capability as well as more sophisticated C-AF.

Im thinking 2499.99. Im still on a learning curve with the EM 1. Still interested to see what extra wizzy things it has at launch.

There's a substantial (though I think speculative) article here https://www.digitalcameraworld.com/f...-likely-to-get which concludes by suggesting a price of "over two grand" and "in the same price range as the Panasonic GH5S."

Computational photography could be part of how Olympus could close the gap with FF. Google are doing lots of fancy stuff in the pixel 3. They've even cracked hand held pixel shift hi-res stacking.

The rumours continue for this saying it will outperform the Fuji X-T3 and another saying it will have features not yet seen.

Are these features we want though?

                            Re: New Olympus OMD - EM1X ?

I suspect one of the features which will be improved is video capability, which for those of not interested in that is irrelevant. However if it opens the camera up to greater sales and hence make investment in stills improvements more viable then that's an easy trade off to accept.

If the rumors are true, and in truth who knows, the improved dynamic and ISO ranges would be the major enhancement for many. Similarly the menu may get attention which, if previous comments are anything to go by, would be welcomed. AF is also slated to be getting a lift which is also good.

For me that's a good basis for a new model.

I've long had a list if more niche improvements which I won't list again but one thing I would love to see is the ability to spot meter, say, the foreground and sky, set the foreground as the base exposure, in manual and AP, and then tell the camera to expose for the sky based on the reading you had taken. That is more precise and controllable than the existing HDR options and reduce unnecessary frames which are typically discarded. The resultant frames would then be easily merged in PS or your prefered software.I know that's a personal request but is it a software facility which many landscapers in particular would possibly enjoy.

However, one thing is certain. It will be expensive which sadly means that as I'm now retired I'm unlikely to be able to afford one no matter how good it may be.

All this speculation can be mildly entertaining albeit pretty pointless in the final analysis.
