  • EM1 or EM5 mkii?

I am currently looking to buy either EM1 or EM5 mkii - which would you go for please? I had decided on the EM1 but now am wondering if the 5 mkii would be a better option?
My interests lie mainly in wildlife but I do some landscape & video as well.
    All opinions welcome.

Find the local dealer who does "try B4U buy" and see what suits you best

Thanks Graham, not so easy where I live as there aren't any camera shops within 50 miles but I may just go for the EM1 anyway as it seems the better option for me...hopefully!

The answer must be the E-M1 mk2 when it arrives!!

With the new E-M1 coming possibly later this year it might make sense to buy a second hand E-M1 now as it could be sold for a small loss or traded in when buying the new version.

em1 for me; just seems a more solid 'pro' camera

So many pros and cons both ways:

              E-M1
              - PDAF - essential for 4/3 lenses and maybe beneficial for CAF on u43 lenses
              - Built in grip
              - Tilt only screen (I don't personally like the new Olympus full-flip screens)
              - Deeper buffer (might be useful for burst shooting)

              E-M5ii
              - Gorgeous shutter sound!
              - Hi Res mode
              - Improved IBIS

You can't go wrong with either - but the screen would be the deciding point for me. Floppy screens make the camera clumsy and twice as wide for waist-level landscape shooting.

I prefer the fully articulated screen, better for portrait shooting on a tripod and overall more versatile, that was the main reason I bought the EM5 MK2 over the EM1, the EM5 MK2 is also smaller overall.

The other significant difference is that the M1 sensor isn't quite so good at controlling noise during exposures of over a minute.

I must say I find the M1 grip much more comfortable in my right hand than the M5, although the mkII is quite a lot better than the mkI.

Thought about hire from Ian? Could be a good decider and a lot cheaper than buying the wrong model for your requirements.

                      Re: EM1 or EM5 mkii?

Some really good comments and advice given here - I decided to drive the 50 miles to the nearest stockist in my area and tried the EM1 & EM5 and really felt like the EM1 suited my requirements and just felt right in my hand. I know there are arguments for and against but I really think I'll be happy with it.
Decided to buy it with the 12-40 pro lens and with a 75-300 bought here as well, I'm happy that I've got a good combination to begin with. Got a 45 f1.8 coming tomorrow as well. NI'll add another lens in time as I particularly fancy the 60mm f2.8 ED macro lens.
Happy with my new Oly kit and it's nice to have kit I feel I can carry around easily and still achieve high quality images...hopefully!

Hopefully I'll get some good photos, I just need to get used to it as I've come from Canon so menu will be a bit different but I'll get there.
Looking forward to having lots of Oly fun!
