    Non-political: We're doomed, Captain Mainwaring

    A glance at any of the review sites or forums will reveal that the E-M1x release is getting a complete hammering. It's a long time since I've seen such consistent negativity on a new launch. CAF once again under delivered (except for trains, planes and automobiles), EVF back in 2014 technology, no new sensor, same IQ, same rear screen, high price compared to competition, ...

    I have to say I'm feeling pretty underwhelmed too. If they had launched an E-M5iii with the 20Mp sensor, hand held hi res, live ND and improved CAF then I'm sure we'd have all have been feeling pretty good and maybe putting in our pre orders. But this camera?...

    The big question is, does this camera put m43 on a stronger footing or weaken it, or is it irrelevant to the long term picture?

      A camera I was never going to buy fails to meet the expectations of others who were never going to buy one
      Honestly I'm hoping Olympus look at the amateur end of their users soon as a steady succession of PRO line stuff is out of my price range and holds no interest.
      That said nothing they announced today stopped my own kit from working as well as it did yesterday and I'm still happy to fly the flag for them when I post my images.

          Thinking on.... The success of this camera is going to be very dependent on very frequent firmware upgrade. All the initial reviewers seem impressed with Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Olympus surely needs to follow this up with people, sports in general, safari and then specific categories of the above? If they manage that, then in their own way they’re going head to head with Nikon, Sony and Canon. If they can’t do this then the feature starts to look a bit gimmicky.

          In the meantime, I find myself in the market for an E-M1 Mk II....

            I am just a bit concerned that Olympus are diverting their resources to a very high-level camera at a price point which will have a very limited user base.

              Perhaps they are consciously aiming this at the transfer (from DSLR) market rather than the upgrade market. To broaden the appeal of M43 to include more wildlife and sports shooters. In which case our opinions are not very important.

                Tesni Ward's review seems to confirm this. It's an additional model for sports and wildlife, not a replacement for E-M1 ii.
