  • Anybody using a Panny 14-140?

I'm just considering this lens to go with my G2 to give me a bit more flexibility when taking pictures of my little granddaughter now she's just started walking (and falling over!).

Would welcome any users views on the overall lens performance as I know it was primarily designed for video but I'd be taking a mix of video and stills.

No, but have a look at http://www.luminous-landscape.com/index.shtml. It gets good reviews.

Re: Anybody using a Panny 14-140?

Ever since I first used the 14-140 when the GH1 was launched, I felt this was a very good lens, especially for video use as it has a very quiet focus motor. But the m.Zuiko 14-150 I feel gives it a good run for its money. Both are silent focusing and although I haven't yet compared them back to back I feel the 14-150 may have the edge optically. However, for a Panasonic user the inclusion of in-lens image stabilisation may be the deal maker as of course Panasonic bodies don't have in-body IS.

Re: Anybody using a Panny 14-140?

I've used it with the GH-1 and E-P1 and it only leaves my GH-1 when I pit on the 45-200 instead.
I don't like it as much as the Oly 14-42 because the lens hood shades the GH-1 flash.
But because it has a non-totating front element I cna use a polariser on it, and use a lens hood to begin with - the rotating front element on the Oly is a pain.
On balance, for the GH-1 it's a better suited lens than trying to use it on the E-P1.
The focal length range is more useful too.
But it doesn't focus as close as the Oly 14-42 so it depends what you want to use it for.

I use a 14-140 on an E-PL1 and (for the past week!) an E-PL2, and I find it an excellent wide-range travel zoom. Although it's heavier than the 14-150 and a wider cylinder, it's still pretty compact. It handles nicely for me. I also carry the 20mm f1.7 for low light and street shots and they compliment each other well.
I tried a 14-150 recently and found the build quality less impressive.

I haven't compared image quality myself, although my reading of the reviews is that the Panny is a little sharper wide open but there's not much difference otherwise. Mine is fully usable at full aperture (which is fortunate considering it's not that wide).
          Regards,
          Mark

I now use the 14-140mm on a GH-1 as my walkround camera. It's slowly replacing my E-510 in terms of convenience if not image quality.

I thought you did well to hold out for so long before taking the plunge Stephen!

How does it feel on the GF1?

Ah, well, I decided not to hang onto the GF1 as it was too close in size to the GH2. Although the IQ was really good, even with the LVF1 which I purchased, it was not as nice to use. So Ffordes kindly took it off me in px for the lens. Which certainly sits nicely on the GH2.
