Looking at the image on the website really closely and I can't see any fiddling with the E-600 (looking to see whether someone had copied the 0 over the 2)

On the other hand I can't find any mention by searching the various olympus sites ( search sometimes finds a page that is not yet structured to a menu )

So IMO it's still looking possible, Maybe...

Mind you ... if people are going to the level of mocking up camera images and press releases http://www.imaging-resource.com/NEWS/1251694801.html they are putting a lot of effort in to lose credibility in the future ..

It's possibly a special version of the E-620 that will be offered as an exclusive, slightly cheaper and lower-spec., alternative to the actual E-620 by some large store chain, like Dixons/Currys here in the UK. My Olympus contact is not around today as it's a holiday here.

OK - have had the low down. There is a low key introduction of the E-600 in to various countries, mainly via a single national chain retailer, as speculated yesterday. It's basically a feature-reduced E-620:

Main points when comparing the E-620 and E-600:

• - same size and body
• - colour of buttons differs from E-620
• - 3 instead of 6 artfilters (Pop Art, Soft Focus, Pinhole)
• - no illuminated buttons
• - no alternative frame aspect ratio options
• - no multiple-exposure function
• - no facility to shoot via remote control

Lack of art filters really means nothing, and no illuminated buttons... that's a plus (less power consumption)...

No remote option... that's the important message: "Stay away".

The price difference is only $100 between 600 and 620, and I know that I wouldn't buy the 600 model for my own use. Maybe for my kids, if it was under $200 price label, and then again...

... where is E-4 or E-5 or E-7 ... or whatever it will be named?

I think we have to put some pressure on these people to make them understand.
When we look at how many do HDR today it is really hard to understand that they can not do it more useable.

When they say "no remote option" do they mean IR remote or will the cord remote not work as well?
I have the E-620, and the manual only mentions use of an IR remote. However, my cable remote from my E-520 still works, though undocumented.

There is no money to be saved by not having a wired remote and one needs one for long exposures on a tripod, so that will have to stay.
I keep wondering how many people use the ackward IR remote anyway: just one eye on the front and nothing on the back.

I have my E410 for 1 1/2 years now, my E520 for 10 month, have both the IR and the wired remote and have not used the IR remote because of the abscence of an IR eye on the back.

On ebay a radio remote is available that is a lot more usefull than Oly's IR.

With the E600 the existence of the E520 does not make sense, the E420/E450 does because of its price and size.

If I need a replacement for my E520 and I don't have the money for an E30 I would buy the E600 instead of the E620 with gadgets that I don't need and it's lower price-tag.

When I am doing tripod shots (of whatever speed) I always use the antishock facility which seems to completely replace the wired remote, which my camera (an E510) does not have, so I will not miss that feature at all.

To me it seems a very worthwhile saving on the 620 price


Now will it come in kit with the pancake lens?

Anti-shock mode is a supplement to a remote trigger, not an alternative. Anti-shock lifts the mirror by a preset time before the exposure is made. The point is to prevent the camera suffering mirror (not shutter as I incorrectly said originally) vibration. Even with remote control, I would use anti-shock in many situations.
