Re: Re Installing Canon printer driver

You can access the CUPS printer system on Linux by pasting: http://localhost:631/admin in a browser. This should also work on a Mac. I rarely use that way so I'm not really clued up on it - but you might find it helpful.

      Another stupid “have you checked”

Have you swapped the USB cable for a known working one?
      I didn’t get where I am today....

I wouldn't have thought that it would affect the installation of the driver, and appearance on the driver list. I would just give an error when trying to print.

Me neither, but I always like to go back to the start - I've been caught out several times by skipping the blatantly obvious! In this case "of course it's OK it's a brand new cable"....

Some of the Epson devices I've used in the past wouldn't install their software if the hardware wasn't present though.

OK, B****y thing is showing. I changed the USB lead, printer showed. Changed the lead back, printer showed. Just printed a 6x4.
Goodness knows what the problem was, but it is now working.

Thanks for all your suggestions guys, not sure which one worked, don't care really, just happy to have my printer back.

Use the CUPS administration page that I mentioned earlier. You can do all sorts of admin. jobs on it:

                  http://localhost:631/admin
