  • Pouch for 70-300 lens

One thing I've been looking for over the past year is a case which will fit and protect the 70-300 when I need to carry it separately in a rucksack. I like the Lowe Pro range generally but there doesn't seem to be one to fit this. Likewise the others I've seen are either massively wide, or too long. Or if approximately right then they don't allow for the lens hood which is quite wide.

So.... What do the rest of you do for this lens?
    Cindy

    Cameras: EM1 MK2 and Mk1, E-620, E-410, Om4Ti
    Lenses: 12-60, 50-200, Panny 100-400, 9-18, ZD 50mm, 14-54 Mk1, 70-300, 40-150, 14-42, OM 50mm F3.5 macro
Also: EC14, EX25, FS35, Vanguard tripod, and far too many bags!

    Re: Pouch for 70-300 lens

I use a neoprene water bottle cover, marketed by Nalgene. Neoprene is nicely padded and somewhat stretchy. The Nalgene cover (is designed to keep water cool) is the only one I could find that fit that lens, and it's a tight fit (fits the 12-60 more easily). Is a bit of a challenge to remove, but that's better than too loose. Has a drawstring too.
The lens hood does not fit inside, but can be slid over the outside for a wedged-on fit. Here's a link to an outdoor gear store we have here in the US, to give you an idea of what it looks like:

I have a Lowepro lens case that fits nicely. The only distinguishing mark that I can find is a number 2 on a tab on the back.

I use a "lens cloth" that came as a freebie with Amateur Photographer. It is approximately 30cm square with Velcro at each corner so it is fully adjustable.

I assume that similar cloths are commercially available

I must look at these again - I think I thought that the '2' looked quite big - but there is also a 2S.

          I'll check 'em out.

I have the Lowpro also, the 70-300 with lenshood reversed JUST fits, it is tightish and lengthwise it just fits too, but anything else I looked at was either way too big and bulky or far too small. I have it stitched to the side of another Lowpro bag which just holds the camera with 12-60 attached.

I use an Olympus LSC 0918 lens bag lens fits with hood drawstring just covers end cap but safe to use. Cannot remember price but it was a lucky spot on E-Bay and cheep!

                    Re: Pouch for 70-300 lens

Well - I've just picked up a Lowe Pro 2 (or modern equivalent) in town, so I'll see if it does the trick.
I like this series coz I can attach them to my belt or to other straps.

                    Thanks for all the advice.

BTW - I suspect that bags for larger cameras and lenses may become more scarce - there are certainly less in places like Jessops and Curry now!
