Walking the old Stainmore line near to Kirby Stephen in Cumbria. The Stainmore line joined the WCML at Tebay in the west with the ECML at Darlington. The line crossed the Pennines at a height of around 1,300 feet and at its peak carried more than a million tons of coal and minerals every year. It was closed in 1962.
