  • Blast From The Past ( 10 image set )

    Hi all,

I had a very interesting day at the Fleet Air Arm near Yeovil, Somerset today and took in the region of 200 images. Still processing the aircraft stuff and hope to post them here soon. In the meantime I thought I would post these images I captured at the FAA today which show some products from the past. Is anyone here old enough to remember these things?

All in all a difficult shoot because of tricky lighting. The star of the show was the FL36 powered by Sanyo Eneloops. First time out with these rechargeables and they were superb. I was never left wanting, and they out performed normal batteries for recharge times. Very Impressed.

Very little PP done here, mostly cropping and slight EV changes. All on E1 and 14-54 with FL36.

So here are the pics.... hope you like.

    Solarine

    Shell

    Oil

    McVitie

    Heinz

    Cadbury

    Bisto

    Bibby

    Lyon Cakes

Thanks for looking, all C&C welcome.

      John -

Thanks for those - I enjoyed them very much. I used to collect those as a hobby but sold or gave them away.

      Very good images.

[Edit - What equipment, hand held or tripod?]
Just like that - gone in a flash! Now in use.

Enjoyable images, thank you for sharing them. I love old signs like this. They are really social history. One of the funniest I've seen is for Craven A cigarettes. It says "Craven A, good for your throat". 10 years ago, there was still one of these on a wall near Warren Street, London. Might still be there.

            Hi Garrie,

Green Manalishi with a two-prong crown - Fleetwood Mac, if I remember correctly?

Hi Barrie, all were hand held though I wish I had taken a tripod as I think I would have got away with it!

I really liked the colours. Bold and clean.

How much PP did you do?

Really very little, minor tweaks to EV but no more than 1/3 stop. Very slight changes to colour and contrast on a few of them but nothing very drastic. Mostly crops and tilt adjustment. I certainly see the improvements with the 14-54 Lens, and the old E1 beast just seems to be working well for me at the moment.

                      Thanks for the comments.

                        Hi John,

Had a quick glance last night but have returned this evening with more time to spare for another look. Ten images, each fantastic in their own right, becoming even more powerful as a set. I love the bold punchy colours that virtually leap off the screen at me. Just shows, in the right hands the E1 is far from obsolete!

                        Regards,

                        Zuiko

Absolutely! Still does what it says on the can.... rather like some of the subjects of Johns pics.
The colours are great. There is quite a distinctive pallet to these old signs and packages.

A lovely collection of vibrant pictures.

I love the way it says that Carbolic Soap is "exquisitely perfumed".

But what on earth were "Nut Milk Cubes"?
