Lens Advice

Hi - first time post!

Have recently bought E600 with 14-42 lens for 329.00 from Dixons.

My main photography hobby is aviation and the Manchester Viewing park offers some good shots but the lens is just too short.

Can anyone suggest a decent lens and also where to get one for a decent price?

Re: Lens Advice

Hi,

I have taken my ZD70-300mm to airshows and had favourable results. I also have a 50-200mm with an EC14 but this is a more costly set-up.

You should be able to find second hand 70-300mm on ebay for 150-250. The new price is around 329.

You could always try Ian's Hire service, or join the UK photo safari group where there is usually an opportunity to try equipment when we meet-up.

Hope this helps

Graydon

Is the 40-150 too short? It's currently on offer at Currys for 79.95.

Re: Lens Advice

The 40-150 is a great, and currently very cheap, lens. It is also small and light.

The 70-300 is good, but the 50-200 is better but it does cost a lot more.

If it were me, I would purchase the 40-150mm, plus you can always sell them on to other users or ebay when you need to upgrade.

Re: Lens Advice

Just thought I'd add, I have the 40-150*, 70-300 and 50-200 + EC14. All very good.

The 70-300mm shouldnt be written off. I find the 50-200 very good but quite heavy; I took the 70-300 to India in favour of it. I may have taken the 50-200mm if it had been monsoon season for the weather sealing.

Also, once I bought the 70-300 the 40-150* stayed at home or is used by my wife because it is light.

Here's some of my shots with a 70-300...

Also searching this sites gallery for 70-300mm ...

http://e-group.uk.net/gallery/search.php?searchid=1892

... but I'm not a sales man trying to sell you a 70-300! hopefully you can see all three lenses have different strengths for you to consider.

Hope this helps..

Smile Re: Lens Advice 70/300

Graydon,

Thanks for posting those photos, i have found one you took at full 300mm on your Flickr photostream exif data (http://www.flickr.com/photos/jonesgj/4519050034/) and its now made me decide to go out and get one, i need a longer lens than the 150 as i shoot gigapans on the epic 100 imager , I have been looking for some samples at full focal length.

Best price seems to be from

http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/DigiGood__W0QQ_armrsZ1

Americian company with uk warehouse, huge sales feedback, seems ok.

thanks again

Neil

Re: Lens Advice

Thanks all for the advice. Just bought the 40-150mm from PC World for 79.99 which seemed a good deal!

Hopefully off the Malvern Hills tomorrow to play!
