Firmware

Hi....I can recall this subject being mentioned in one of the forums but after much scouring (learning lots of other things),I cannot find it.

I have the E500 and E510 and wondered if they "are up to date"

The e510 is 1.3.... and various lenses are...14-42...1.0
40 -150 Mk1 ..1.1
sigma 135-400...1.0
sigma 105.....1.2.
Is this all O.K...if not how do i go about changing things and does it do any harm...or improve performance.

Thanks.

This page here contains all the firmware versions:
http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/...tware/firm/e1/

After a quick glance it appears to me that it is only the 14-42mm is not totally up to date - v1.3 is out.

To update take a look a look here:
http://www.olympus.co.jp/en/support/...software10.cfm

I've always taken the view that any update is beneficial and will be an improvement on previous versions - whether you will notice any improvement in real life is another thing. Some updates can make quite a noticable difference (such as improved focus speed going from v1.x to v1.2 or v1.3 wuth the 70-300) whereas most of latest lens firmware releases enable CDAF and so for older bodies you'll see no obvious improvement at all. Some people take the view that unless you have a problem you shouldn't risk updating the camera and quote times when the update process has failed rendering the camera / lens useless. Follow the instructions fully though and the risk is minimal.
