Damselfly comes to a sticky end

A return visit to College Lake was a bit of a disappointment as we lost the sun as soon as we arrived but there were other creatures around to interest us as well as the few butterflies still about.

1. A common blue damselfly provides a nourishing lunch for a spider no larger than itself but the latter does, of course, have the advantage of being able to spin a web.


2. A pair of common blue damselflies.


3. A large(small?) red damselfly.


4. Small male holly blue.


5. Male painted lady.

All fantastic shots,especially the spider one.

Think #3 is a Sympetrum sanguineum - Ruddy Darter
and #4 a Male Common Blue

You are almost correct ringneck #3 is a common darter the ruddy darter has red eyes

Anne, nice set of images. I really like the 4th one of the butterfly. The blue is very stunning.
