  • T-32 Flash question

    Hi,
Sorry if this has been asked before (I couldn't find anything)?

Would it be 'safe' to use my old Olympus T-32 flash on a more modern OMD E-M1 camera? With the cost of modern flash units being so high, i have the old Olympus unit sitting with my OM2, so it's a shame not to reuse it if I can

    Re: T-32 Flash question

I am almost certain that it is safe to use any of the T-series OM flashes on E-series cameras. You won't get any TTL automatic exposure, but the T-32 has its own fairly simple on-board auto. I can't remember whether you get the ready light and confirmation blink in the viewfinder.

I am pretty sure I've done it, and I saw a documentary about a Scottish paparazzo (whose name I can't remember, sorry) who uses them with an E-M1.

      Re: T-32 Flash question

I used my T32 with my old E-620 without problems. Its standard auto modes worked. I haven't tried it with my E-M5 but I would be fairly confident it would work.

        Re: T-32 Flash question

I have read somewhere that it is perfectly save to use the T32 and T20 on all Olympus digital cameras and I do so myself (E-M5). I do tend to use the flash on manual and chimp a lot; for dark caverns its just full blast and see what I can get from the raw.

          Re: T-32 Flash question

I use T-series Flash on my E-M1 etc.. The trigger contact voltage is low (typically 5V)

            Re: T-32 Flash question

I used various combinations of T32s and T20s with my EP-2. Before the magnification factor became significant (i.e. at low magnifications) I often used the onboard meter of the master T32 for metering. The ring flashes via dedicated control unit are fine too. I even used the T32 zoom attachment.
