  • Desert Rose flower buds opening time-lapse.

Here is an early attempt at doing a time-lapse video, uploaded on Olympus Australia face-book page.

29 views, 3 likes, 0 loves, 1 comments, 0 shares, Facebook Watch Videos from Ross Wood: A time-lapse video of a Desert Rose's flower buds opening. 122 frames at 2 minute intervals & replaying at...

EDIT: Please let me know if you can't see the video on Face Book, Olympus AU.

This was how it was set up.

    And the resulting last frame.

EDIT: I was under the impression it was Australian, but not so as indicated here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adenium_obesum

    Nice video !

I did! They're just the ones I did later. Actually, I needed to get the sequence started quickly as the bloom on the right was already opening, so a few things in the sink could stay & wait for more important things.

    Thanks anyhow John.

I was expecting something else when I saw the title Desert Rose. I remember my dad telling me about Desert Roses in the Africa Campaign during WWII, the thought of one of those and time lapse was too much!

Here is the plant tag that came with this one, with a botanical name of Adenium Obesum. EDIT: I was under the impression it was Australian, but not so as indicated here. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adenium_obesum

The video plays fine but the flower looks a little out of focus!

I got what you wrote & now I understand your somewhat different concept of the Desert Rose. That one would not smell like a rose.

Unfortunately, Olympus AU facebook page has compressed & highly pixelated it somewhat because the flower opening on the right starts off being the subject in focus but as the bud starts to open in front I then adjusted it to be in focus & it is in reasonably sharp focus when viewing a larger format video. I've never uploaded anything to youtube yet but maybe I should start if I have something worthwhile to put there.
