L-Fn shifts S-Af - C-Af

Is it posible to set the L-Fn to shift between S-Af and C-Af or could it be done in a system upgrade?

It does not appear that is possible, other than the MF selection which toggles between MF & other, although while holding it in the dial can be rotated to change it to your focus selection.

Re: L-Fn shifts S-Af - C-Af

It's my last bugbear of Oly cameras, that many functions can't be toggled with switches (exposure mode would be handy, as would AF) and everything has to be presets or the SCP.

Re: L-Fn shifts S-Af - C-Af

Accidentally found that I could do this, using the fn lever. If I'm walking around with the
40-150mm +mc-14... shutter priority 1/2000th / s-af etc, with fn lever in position 1.

Switch to fn lever position 2 and I repeat settings, with exception of using c-af . Found this so useful to quickly switch between sa-f and c-af

I think you can do most of what you want as follows (This assumes that your default AF mode = S-AF)

Menu Cog A2 = 'AF Set Home'. This allows you to specify 3 parameters:
  1. AF mode, i.e. S-AF, C-AF, etc
  2. AF active points i.e. 1, 5, 9, All points
  3. AF home position.
Set this so that AF mode = C-AF, together with your preferences for active points & home position.
Correction Next, using Menu Cog B, assign "AF-Home" to your L-Fn button.

Now when you press the Ln Function button your AF settings will change to those as specified with AF Set Home, and when you press Ln Function again the AF settings will revert to previous.
I use this setup with my Fn2 button (because my Ln Function button is assigned to activate the Focus Limiter settings).

You should also be aware that - when set up as described - if you change the AF mode (from S-AF to C-AF) via the SCP the 'toggle' behaviour will stop working until such time as you change back to S-AF using the SCP.

Obviously, if your default AF mode setting is for C-AF then you need to modify the AF Set Home value to specify AF mode = S-AF in order for this toggle to work.
Hope this helps

Apologies as originally written, I wrongly suggested you assign the L-Fn button to MultiFunction.

That would be good, but I already use the lever for other things.
I could never find a good use for L-Fn until I went to the Duxford Oly day, when the pro suggested using it to toggle the digital teleconverter. That's not to take images like that (unless you forget...) but it's great for aircraft and bird identification at long range.

Re: L-Fn shifts S-Af - C-Af

Frustratingly, using the lever-fn as I do, It doesn't seem to let me set and recall different number of focus points. Appears to remember all other settings, unless I'm missing something !

Re: L-Fn shifts S-Af - C-Af

Please note in post #6 of this thread I originally specified an incorrect button assignment. I have now corrected that post and hope no-one was misled.
Apologies.

Re: L-Fn shifts S-Af - C-Af

It is possible to have the lens function button set to stop focus, with allows you to re-compose in CAF mode by focusing on the subject, holding the button in, recomposing, then taking the shot. Not exactly switching between SAF and CAF, but the next best thing.
