  • Jessops not to stock the E-30 ?

I popped into Jessops Cardiff today hoping to get a hands on look at the E-30 if they had it yet.

I was suprised by the response "We won't be stocking it sir"

I don't know whether this is all the stores, or just cardiff and I see they do have it on their website, but it would be interesting to see whether there is a pattern so if you're passing a Jessops why not see if we can all find out whether this is true and if so why.

The only thing I can think of is that they have not been able to get a price out of Olympus that gives them enough margin at what they see is a reasonable selling price

    Regards
    Andy

Re: Jessops not to stock the E-30 ?

Jessops rarely know what they will be stocking until it's on their list - and as it seems to have a slighty ill defined UK shop appearance date currently.....

overall they (Jessops) have been increasing their Olympus presence in many stores recently - but it's not there at all in others (small ones).

they also seem to be going through a major refit/redesign phase as well. the London (New Oxford Street) store is nearly done but has further to go still
    E, Pen and OM-D bodies
    43 m43 and legacy glass
loads of flashes and accessories from all the systems

Maybe Olympus are concerned with their credit rating ?

On a slightly different tack - and I have no desire to hijack this thread - I've just had a look at the Park Cameras site http://www.parkcameras.com/

Looks like they're having an E-30 launch down there on 14 February - so if you want to get 'touchy-feely' with an E-30, perhaps that's the place to be

I popped into the local Jacobs yesterday and was disspointed to see the Olympus kit had all gone (with the exception of P&S)

When I asked why the response was "it's just not selling". People are only asking for Canon and Nikon cameras in this type of camera.

Olympus really do have to do something to get back into these high street stores because this sort of thing becomes self fulfilling in business and we all want and need them to be a sucessful company

We all need to badger and support these stores. I know we can all get better prices through the internet, but they react to enquiries as well

Seems daft when you can buy the E-30 etc from Jessops on line but not in store.

It's just not selling because the sales staff actively discourage people from buying it.

I had the miserable experience of having to buy from Jessops when I got my E510 as it was an insurance matter, and they were utterly useless, several times saying I should buy Canikon, and they absolutely screwed me on the price.

Even recently when I bought my Panasonic G1 I was told that it was 'a nice enough bridge type camera with interchangable lenses - except that there aren't any lenses to change!' I'd tell you how many lenses I have that will fit (with adapter) but I don't have enough fingers to count them

And no - I didn't buy it from Jessops

I noticed yesterday that Digital Depot have removed Olympus DSLRs from their website: Digital Depot DSLRs

They still have Zuiko lenses though.

They may list lenses - but I've yet to see any, since the little 'hiccup' they sufferred last year, as actually available/in-stock.

On the few occasions, I've ventured into Jessops, I've had the same response to nearly all my Olympus related enquires...

As in, 'we're fed up of telling people, there's just no demand for 'em '

Re: Jessops not to stock the E-30 ?

When I was buying an E500 I went into Jessops in York and asked to see one - was told that they did not stock it because they expected Oly to go bust at any moment - naturally I bought elsewhere. Later when the E510 was announced I saw one on the shelf at Jessops in Cambridge so I went in and asked about it and got the reply "It was there when I got back from holiday a week ago so I know nothing about it yet", again I bought elsewhere. Edit: I later found that his store as due to close, but I do not know if his lack of enthusiasm came before or after the news of the closure.

In the present circumstances I would expect Oly to ask for payment up front before they delivered any stock, which is probably the reason why Jessops decided not to stock them

Trouble is that we'll make the demise of Olympus self fulfulling if we all take this (entiurely understandable approach)

I'm praying for a massive Ad campaign and charm offensive with the E-30.
