  • Wigeon in Flight

I went to Strumpshaw Fen last week and took the opportunity to walk to Buckenham Marshes for the first time for several months. I was pleased to see that there were still huge numbers of Wigeon on the marshes. As they kept taking off and flying about it seemed like an excellent opportunity to get some practice at flight shots using C-AF. The results were mixed but some of them worked, more or less. I am sure a lot of it has to do with confidence - half press the shutter button, follow the birds (not easy), then fully press the button and keep it there for a few frames. More practice (and confidence) is definitely required.

The last shot shows just a tiny portion of the many thousands of Wigeon on the marshes.

    E-M1, 50-200 SWD and EC-14.

A nice set, the first one is very good.

You are getting some great shots with that camera/lens combination.

    Thanks for sharing.

All very good, but feather detail in the first one is excellent.
The picture tells the story, great when you have a bad memory.DW.

great first shot, making me think the 50-200 and Converter may stay.

Thanks Ed. I actually find it slightly easier shooting C-AF with the 50-200 SWD than with my m43 lenses. When you half press the shutter button a handy outline appears to indicate the area of the active AF points. It is much easier keeping the subject within the outline than in the centre of the viewfinder without the outline.
