  • E-M1 firmware 3.1 to come in June

    http://www.olympus.com.au/Olympus/me...ss-Release.pdf (from Olympus Australia website)

The part I like for the E-M1 is this (if I ever get to do it ).
Enhanced visibility through EVF and LCD screen for night sky or starscape photography with new LV Boost II setting (E-M1 v3.1 only; EM5 Mark II already has this function)
    SYDNEY – 12 May 2015
Olympus Corporation is pleased to announce that a new camera firmware for the flagship Olympus OM-D E-M1 will be available in June 2015. Version 3.1 firmware update, adds new functionality for advanced underwater and starscape photography. Firmware Version 1.2 for the E-M5 Mark II, will be simultaneously launched that provides similar improvements for underwater photography. The new Underwater Picture Mode enables significantly better user control over key camera settings for underwater photography. The
separate wide and macro underwater (UW) picture modes of earlier firmware versions are replaced by this single ‘unified’ picture mode. In addition to white balance, exposure, and flash compensation you can now adjust aperture and shutter speed in the P/A/S/M exposure settings for enhanced control of imaging results. This dedicated picture mode helps capture underwater photos with the perfect balance of vivid colours and natural underwater blue hues. A higher visibility Live View setting, “LV Boost II” has been added to the
OM-D E-M1 for improved visibility through the Electronic Viewfinder or LCD screen for night sky or starscape photography. This setting can be applied to the Live Composite or the manual exposure modes. These new firmware updates have been timed to coincide with the launch of the M.Zuiko Digital ED 7-14mm f2.8 PRO and M.Zuiko Digital ED 8mm f1.8 Fisheye PRO lenses that have been long awaited by underwater and night sky photo enthusiasts.

No one really interested in this update to come (apart from Graptolite)?

The Live Boost is also very useful in the studio when doing dark, Low-Key sets.

I hardly ever uses high speed sequence (very low shutter count on all my cameras) but I saw a technique on BIF that suggested the second frame may well be better than the first...

I never do astro or underwater so I'll not be in a hurry to upgrade.

Ross, I hope you do not mind, but I copied your post for Cathrine who does underwater - as does Steve Cain and a few others here.

I am interested, in any other upgrades in this firmware not detailed above
Thanks for Sharing (on my own and Cathrine behalf)

I'm not really worried about how many likes etc as I just thought I'd share what was on our Australian site. http://www.olympus.com.au/Olympus/me...ss-Release.pdf

Thanks for the heads up, having just got the 40-150mm f2.8 Pro lens & stunned how good it is, although I have the Panny 7-14mm I am seriously considering the new Oly 7-14mm, so firmware update would be useful.

That's interesting that it isn't mentioned in the UK. DPReview included it in this news release, Olympus offers limited edition Titanium OM-D E-M5 II and firmware update with the following quoted from that article.
Also included in today's announcements from Olympus is an underwater housing for the OM-D E-M1 and a firmware update - version 3.1 for the E-M1 and version 1.2 for the E-M5 Mark II. The update includes an Underwater Picture Mode for both cameras, and the E-M1 gets LV Boost II, which brightens the Live View monitor rather than displaying live exposure effects. LV Boost II is already a feature of the E-M5 II. The firmware will also be available in June.

                          Ed,

Keep the 50-200 and the 1.4 TC, I did.

Mind you, they haven't been on the E-M1 since I bought the 40-150 Pro and the MC-14.

Go on, you know you want to buy it.

I think I am weakening too. So many happy users of the 40-150 + TC are praising its virtues. I have the Panasonic 35-100 f2.8 which is an excellent lens so I find it a bit hard to justify the outlay for only an extra 50mm in FL. I was holding out for the mythical 300mm f4 which seems to keep receding into the future! I do find that when using a long FL zoom (I have the 75-300) I tend to use it mainly in the 75 - 300mm range and would often wish it was a bit longer.
