Another weekend, another trip to one of Scotland's iconic locations with IainMacD. This time we decided to grin and bear it for a 'sunrise shoot' picking Rannoch Moor as our starting point based on the BBC forecast. There was much grinning and bearing for this one as it is a 3 hour drive to Rannoch for me and 2 hours for Iain but we duly arrived at 0615 to a beautifully twilight lit, misty Loch Ba.
1.
The twilight colours faded quite quickly and we waited expectantly for the sunrise. The mist was quite patchy and at times the landscape became almost monochromatic.
2.
3.
At last the sun made an appearance, subtle, muted colours at first but then a rather nice orange glow.
4.
5.
6.
Almost as quickly as it arrived the sun and colour were lost and we were left with the mist and low cloud scudding across the loch and distant hills.
7.
We left Ba for a short while to photograph a couple of different nearby lochans but returned later once the mist had finally dissipated and the sun was much higher in the sky. The loch was now breathlessly still (unfortunately the midges were now out in force
); this image is looking towards the Black Mount.
8.
From here we decided to take a slow meander home, stopping where the mood took us. First stop was Buachaille Etive Mor. Surprisingly there was very little water flowing in the stream but it meant we could clamber over the rocks for a different perspective. I didn't manage any great images but did get another soaking when I slipped on a mossy rock. Iain managed much more successfully.
9.
Our final destination for the day was at Chia-Aig Falls near Loch Arkaig. Iain is much better at this sort of thing than me but I was impressed by the shape of the upper part of the falls.
10.
Another great day out and well worth the early start (well I thought so
). There was some discussion on one of our previous threads about a possible 'Highland' meet. Iain and I were discussing it yesterday and suggested a possible date of 11/12 Oct if anyone is interested?
(Apologies for the amount of images here - I'm rubbish at selecting my own favourites!!)
