  • Australia's Red Centre *The Outback*

The road to Lark Quarry stretches 110Kms to the South of Winton, QLD (see key map)
where the tracks of a Dinosaur Stampede that occurred 95 million years ago is written in fossilised stone.
The first tour of the site begins at 10:00AM and I wanted to be there earlier to catch the light on the spectacular red landscape.
But my shoot of the tour itself must wait out of courtesy to Lyn who mentioned that she and Neil were planning to visit it themselves, and I have no wish to steal her thunder!

Go for it Mark - no-one takes the same photo of the same scene and I will enjoy seeing your shots.
I am glad you took up my suggestion of visiting Lark Quarry even if you did charge up there at breakneck speed to get there before us!
We planned our outback holiday around visiting Lark Quarry and we were not at all disappointed. It was a fabulous experience.

I remain hesitant in spite of your graciousness, Lyn - my fear is that you might wish to reshoot it !

No scenes with old lorry tyres hanging in the trees - is this feature no longer part of the Ozzy red centre?

The red centre is a spiritual place - at night there is a silence found nowhere else on Earth, and the sky is strewn with the twinkling of a trillion, trillion, stars. It makes one wonder about such things as Life, the Universe and Everything and The Restaurant at the End of the Universe.

The Outback is a vastness wherein everything of value is encompassed by nothingness, John.

The tyres in the trees were a fascinating subject - contrasting nature's charm and man's uncouthness.

Re: Australia's Red Centre *The Outback*

I remember riding up and down the airstrip in a Ute, near Kakadoo Park flattening the ant hills so that the single engine 5 seater plane could pick us up and take us on to Darwin.

The day light had turned to dusk and the pilot had to ask the airport to put the runway lights on so we could see where to go. Great fun.

I bet there were a few colonies of homeless ants that weren't too happy!
