Moved this thread to the Wide Angle board under Lens Focus.

Yorky - are you looking for info on Four Thirds or Micro Four Thirds with regards to this lens?

Re: Samyung 7.5 lens (Moved from The Lounge)

I have the m4/3 version, and whilst its use is limited I really like it. I have a few samples in my gallery. It can successfully be de-fished to give a flatter field of view.

The 4/3 is 8mm, the m4/3 is 7.5mm.

Re: Samyung 7.5 lens (Moved from The Lounge)

I have the mFT one, actually a Rokinon but I'm pretty sure it's exactly the same lens, except for the name. Great fun and a real change of pace for me. I'm usually peering down a long telephoto lens at wildlife! So a lens with near 180 degrees FoV is a real eye-opener. Pun intended. Sorry!

The Samyangs are rebadged as Rokinon, Vivitar and a few other brands.

Chris Grew has it. Works a treat on the OM-D. An example of one of his images is here

Re: Samyung 7.5 lens (Moved from The Lounge)

I bought a used Samyang mFT for a Norwegian cruise to view the Northern Lights and intended to sell it again afterwards. The lens didn't disappoint (though the Lights could have been better) - it does take some getting used to and I'm still learning, but I've hung on to it.
I thought about the Olympus 9-18, but doubted I'd use it enough to warrant the extra cost and I figured a used Samyang wouldn't be an expensive mistake if I didn't take to it.
There simply is no alternative at this angle and price!
Doug

Re: Samyung 7.5 lens (Moved from The Lounge)

I've just bought one... (from eGlobaldirect, as it happens - the import duty/charges meant the saving was around 16 cf. Amazon - doubt I'd bother again). It's nice... the manual aspect of it isn't a problem if you're used to shooting manual or using exposure comp.

Haven't taken many shots with it as yet, but it's a fun lens, and a lot cheaper than the auto lenses. (I doubt I'd have justified the expense otherwise, as I doubt I'll use it a huge amount). IQ is pretty good.

Re: Samyung 7.5 lens (Moved from The Lounge)

Thanks very much everyone for your helpful comments, I am awaiting delivery as I write from the great river god Amazon! I thought I would treat myself to something unusual. I am not sure about the manual bit. I suppose it will mean delving back to using an old Leica 3G of more years back than I really want to remember:-(

Re: Samyung 7.5 lens (Moved from The Lounge)

Just stick it on f8, move the focus ring about 1/4" from infinity, aperture priority, and you'll be fine!

Diffraction could be a problem at f8 (equivalent to f16 in FF) I stick my 7.5 on f4.
