Many happy returns, Mark. That's a nice collection shots of what I'm sure was a good gathering.

It is dark, wet and windy here so iced watermelon is not top of the menu.

    Ciao ... John

Lovely shots (although I'm not 100% sure about some of those hats ).

21/12 was my father's birthday and, since I caught my photo interests from him, I've got many reasons to be grateful.

          Have a wonderful day.
          Regards,
          Mark

Glad to see the Sun still shines on the righteous, Mark, can't wait to get back to short sleeves rather than thick fleeces.

Re: The Longest Day * My Birthday * 21 December

Every one of the celebratory shots is absolutely lovely - I particularly like the one of mother and daughter together (sorry, Mark - I know it is your birthday!) and also the standing one of Salina.

Many Happy Returns of the Day to you. 21st December is often referred to in the UK as the shortest day of the year, although I believe tomorrow will take that honour this year - possibly it is one of the longest for you? We have had a really miserable cool, wet and windy day - probably a boost for the shopping malls as folk will be happy to stay indoors.

As has already been mentioned by others this seems to be a popular birthday - as today is also my sister in law's birthday - she claims her 26th (but we must reverse the numerals ) and also a nephew is celebrating his 31st.

                  Regards,
                  Ann1e

Happy birthday, Mark - it looks like you had a wonderful day.

For a moment I thought you had made a mistake in the thread title, surely it's the shortest day. Then I remembered that things are back to front in the Southern Hemisphere and that where you are it's midsummer!

It has definitely been the shortest day for us, taking longer to get light but sooner to get dark due to being grey and overcast with intermittent drizzle, in fact it hardly really got light at all!

Although you may envy our summer, John it is not a time that all us Aussies look forward to - the heat can be oppressive.

No need to apologise, Annie - I am not too precious about birthdays, they just come and go and they seem to be getting closer and closer together, but thank you!

I like to have fun doing what I like best on my birthday, Lyn - the idea of spending it sitting down in some absurdly over-priced meal in a restaurant which I could have made something much nicer and healthier myself, isn't exactly my idea of fun.

It's an interesting phenomenon John that in winter, unlike the UK, we have a very short twilight. It gets dark very quickly.

A lovely set of photos Mark & I hope you had a lovely birthday, Old Mate!.

Mt Buffalo was a lovely spot to visit when we had camped in Bright (nearby) many years ago. If only my old slides (photos) from then had EXIF details in them. I hope to scan them one day, when I get around to it (those round toits are so hard to find though), but the alpine areas of Australia (Victoria & New South Wales) are lovely to visit in summer & that is what we did then (I've never been to Tassie though). The ski areas didn't look much in summer then & had more of that cleared look.

                            Thanks for sharing Mark.

Thanks Ross. It was a good one made especially so by the company

I am determined to return there alone for some serious photography when the weather is cooler.

I saw lots of the elusive Crimson Rosellas which I've never been able to frame in the viewfinder - almost had one when the family disturbed it and away it flew!
