Question About Batteries

My new OMD EM-5 should arrive tomorrow, so my question is will my E-PL batteries work with it or do I have to wait for the battery to charge before I can play with it.

Re: Question About Batteries

E-PL5 batteries are BLS. E-M5 batteries are BLN. There's a physical size difference, so you'll just have to be patient!

Re: Question About Batteries

I have an EPL-5 and the battery doesn't fit the OMD but I don't know about the earlier models. When I bought my OMD the battery had a charge and gave me a good couple of hours to try it out.

Re: Question About Batteries

Thanks Stephen and Dave, another question, can anyone recommend a decent third party battery for it?

Re: Question About Batteries

The Ex-Pro ones from Amazon work, and can be charged from the original charger.

Re: Question About Batteries

I'm still waiting for the free battery and case Olympus offered when I bought my OMD so not looked into third party batteries for it.

In the past I've used PowerPlanet via Amazon to source batteries for my G2 (Which is still going strong) and my GX1 before I sold it and have just ordered one for my EPL-5. Their prices are reasonable and they have a quick despatch time.

Dave.

Re: Question About Batteries

The new E-P5 uses the same batteries as the E-M5 (useless information, I know).

Re: Question About Batteries

I have four of the Ex-Pro batteries and use them with an Ex-Pro charger which seems to work well enough.
Not sure that they will charge with the original charger though.
