OMD EM-5 Macro capability

I've found, over the last couple of weeks, that EM-5 images will stand considerable cropping. The high ISO capability plus the extra pixels (the main reasons why I bought it) enable acceptable detailed close-up shots to be obtained from non-macro lenses. My everyday lens is the Leica 14-150mm which has a closest focus distance of 50 cm (from sensor plane) which enables fairly close shots but not down to macro level. However with judicious pp including some largish crops it is possible to get near macro results. Of course they can't be up to the standard of the ZD 50mm or Sigma 150mm but I think are usable. These are a few I banged off in dull weather yesterday. I'd be interested in the opinions of the macro masters on this forum.

I also think they are very good.I am waiting for a adapter so that I can use my Zuiko 50mm.
This shot I took with the 12-50 kit lens.

Re: OMD EM-5 Macro capability

At web resolution they look fantastic. The bee is pick of the crop (pun intended ) for me. What resolution were these before resizing?

Re: OMD EM-5 Macro capability

These look good to me.
There is another trick the EM-5 can play, the "Digital Teleconverter". Only works on jpeg's but could be useful.

Here's a little experiment I tried. Very unscientific but looks as if the facility could have some uses.

A cigarette lighter with built in compass.

12-50mm kit lens, macro mode, closest focus distance.

Same conditions but in digital teleconverter mode.

For reference the lighter is about 7x5 cm and the compass is about 1.5 cm dia.
Not a good choice of subject as it's too shiny and the perspex on the compass is scratched but it suggests it has possibilities.

Regards.

Re: OMD EM-5 Macro capability

The images were cropped to around 50% and the aperture used was f5.6.
