  • Images and Observations.

I've had it two and a half day and not seen the sun.Thought I'd post a few from this morning and air a few thoughts so far.

All at ISO 400 apart from the inside of the church which is ISO 1600 and all with IS 1 on and the 14-150mm.All shot in Raw.

Very impressed with the viewfinder particularly the fact that you can over lay the live histogram and adjust to it before the shot is taken.Seems quite accurate and very easy to get the exposure correct.
On the E5/3 you could do this in live view but it was so small I didn't take any notice of it.
As I have my camera set in manual focus mode 3 and auto focus with the fn1 button I have it set to magnify on the turn of the focus ring, combined with the ability to have IS preview with a half push of the shutter button make manual focus very easy. This is really very handy for use with my 4/3 lenses.
I like the fact you can get the SCP up in the view finder and change setting as you shoot.
Wish I could get Myset on the FN2 or rec button though, only seem to be able to assign it to fn1 which I need for auto focus.
Can't get Home point to work on either fn1 or rec, something I use on my E5.

My 4/3 lenses all auto focus but it's a bit hit and miss and slow so prefer to manual focus, something I use quite a lot anyway.

As you can probably tell I'm impressed with the camera and also the 14-150 which I'll use as my walk round lens.

Ps it fits in my bag so well for walk around I'm not sure how much I'll use the grip when it turns up.
    All the best

All good images (as ever), but the first one is very good.

I like the way the flowers seem to mimic the raindrops. Very clever composition.

The 14-150 is a nice lens. Wish I hadn't sold mine now, but then I've already got too many lenses!

          Re: Images and Observations.

Those are much nicer images than my first attempts, but like you I am very impressed with the E-M5.

I want to get the grip fitted. It's so small with the 45mm lens that it hides in the bottom of my small Lowepro bag.

As for the neglected E-PL3. With no lens fitted it is now impossible to find in the dark corners on my large Lowepro. I think it is sulking.

            Thanks Andy, it looks interesting.

Yes, I have every intention of attending, and very much looking forward to it.

An excellent set Andy. The first two are outstanding.

Useful observations on the use of the EM-5. I'm still waiting for mine, ordered a silver one, stupid boy.

              Regards.

                Re: Images and Observations.

It's a very under rated lens, performs far better than it should as Andy's pics so clearly show.

Are you getting the 12-50 with your OM-D?I can't believe you gave up that 14-150.

Ps have you seen the Fnords yet?

Beautiful images & that lens does very well. Is that the M.ZD lens?

While I wait for my silver E-M5 I have time to read everybody's comments & hints & actually take time to wade through the manual (PDF) to hopefully be reasonably prepared for when it arrives.

Thanks for showing these lovely photos.

Thank you,yes it is the M.ZD lens.Got it second hand from another forum member as a light weight all purpose walkaround lens.
Seems to work nicely, mind you I went out the the M 4/3 adaptor and my old Mk1 14-54.I can only say Wow to the results.
With the magnified viewfinder its very easy to get spot on manual focus.

I'll try some of my other lenses over the next few days.

other branded camera might just have to be sold then!

When we silver body owners are basking in full on retro glory, you ten-a-penny black body types will be jealous!

Silver kits are appearing in the East on eBay, so I hope they will soon arrive with Olympus Europe soon.
